That sounds like just about every 8th grader that played in the FTJFL last year is out for football. I'm sure that doesn't include the hand full of kids that are playing Basketball and another 3-4 that will find their way to Ft Thomas to play Football. I like the early numbers! So by season's start there will probably be roughly around 40 kids dressed for Frosh football.

I'll give general comments as I have a a dog in the fight on this team.

 

A big "O" line. I think this line overall will be bigger than last year freshman team.

 

A lot of skilled positions on Offense. I can make a case for 4 kids that could play RB and six that could be WR.

 

My worry on Offense is QB. IMO no one stepped up last year to be the "guy". Maybe a transfer in will save us.

 

Defense is a wildcard.

 

This class has a lot of kids that are good athletes that play hard. But I don't see the typical game changer as we have seen in the past couple classes. Maybe it will change when the pads are on.

Well I really like Jared Pulsfort. I know I'm such a homer.....I really think that Jared could be a unbelievable WR with his height and track speed. He has some very nice hands! One problem, who is going to be able to get the ball to him. I'm sure Nick will figure that out.

 

Other players......

 

Carter Burke(LB) The kid will not miss any tackles and can flat out play the game of football. Does a nice job of running the ball too.

Bradley"Lightning in a Bottle" Greene(ATH) I say athlete because he can do anything. And I mean anything!

Cole Murphy(T) Big physical kid. One of the best lineman that my staff and I have had the pleasure to coach.

Luke LaFrange(TE) This kid needs to work on his quickness. Going through a growth spurt. Once he figures that out he will be a very nice addition to any position.

Sam Taylor(DB) A little undersized but will light you up. Very smart player and puts himself into the right space to make plays all over the field.

Herbert Shearer(G) Not sure if he will make it to Ft Thomas to play. Would love to see it but I am not counting on it. He may be the best fundamentally sound lineman that I have seen in our league in quite some time. Can make every single block that is assigned to him. Never misses one!!

Ethan Doty(TE,QB) Hopefully Ethan gives football another shot this year. He was given the chance to pitch baseball at the Highlands JV level this past fall and chose to do so. Very nice size and gifted Athlete.

 

The Blue team was loaded this past year with only 1 loss and that was to the “The Big Red Machine”…LOL! Blue was very good! The green had some nice players but were a little out manned the entire season. Once again the Gold had some freakishly huge lineman and that will be the key to having some success at the Frosh level. Coach Turner will be very pleased to get this group of lineman across the board in a couple of years.

 

There are many more great players throughout the league but that’s what I can offer from coaching the 7/8th grade Red Team.

Any of these kids going to attend the USA Football Development Camp this summer?

Don't forget about Kyle Rust. Does a very nice job running routes and catching the ball. A little undersized but does a good job of putting his body in position so that he is the only one able to catch the ball. Very hard to teach that technique at any level.

If my count is correct that is 18 footballers that are involved in the basketball program currently.

Hoge may very well step into a role at Safety. I am pretty sure that Dougherty will not step in there. I am sure many soph's are just hoping that they get a chance to contribute in some fashion at the Varsity level.

 

 

 

 

 

If Hoge moves over to defense, I think he fits at corner opposite Bardo. Abner and Urlage are solid at safety.

Well the Varsity team had 97 football players in 2012 and that didn't include the 40 or so Frosh. I would think that HHS could possibly have well over 100 Varsity football players this year. Yikes!!!

By the time Griffen graduates he will be a very dangerous football player. What is he now 6'-2"-6'-3"? He has the frame to put on some serious size the next couple of years. He along with the Cowboy and if both of them work their tails off, the 2 of them back there could be very scary for opposing receivers the next couple of years.
