This is not a debate thread about gun control, so let's not go there.

I have a question for gun owners based upon a couple of assumptions.

1. Assume the federal government were to issue extreme gun control legislation.

2. Assume the ban includes handguns or rifles that you currently own.

3. Assume some of your weapons are unregistered because you inherited them or bought them from private parties.

4. Assume the legislation calls for confiscation of all weapons included in the ban and you have a grace period to voluntarily submit any weapons that are covered.

Now, based on the above, would you voluntarily submit your guns? Would you submit only the guns that you know there is a record of ownership on file somewhere and keep the others? Would you wait until the feds contact you and then sumbit the guns? Or would they have to "pry them from your cold dead fingers?

It would be time to move.

Point of clarification - would there still be guns that can be legally owned? Or is this is complete ban on all guns?

What guns? I gave them all away a long time ago.:idunno:

Let's say the ban, and confiscation, was for all semi automatic weapons and all handguns. You could still own pump shotguns, bolt action rifles, etc.

Whether I liked it or not I would turn them in.

I have several guns but the only one fitting your criteria is a semi-auto .22. I believe I'd turn it in (but I'd have to read the actual law and agree with it to make a definite statement).

This thread is contradictory to the wide spread notion that most gun owners are law abiding citizens.

Do you really believe that? You are painting a picture to suit your narrative instead of using common sense.

I see a bunch of gun owners indicating they would not follow the law if passed. Pretty clear painting if you ask me.

I think most people, period, are law abiding citizens. Gun owners, teachers, preachers, coal miners, etc. all fall into that cross section of the population. That doesn't mean that they are perfect or that they are always in compliance with every single law on the books. If 100% compliance with every law is the level where we are going to set the bar, then I would venture to speculate that we do not have any law abiding citizens among us.

I consider myself a law abiding citizen, but that doesn't mean I have never broken a law. My answer in the above poll doesn't change that IMO. I simply place my family's safety, and my ability to defend them against any intruder above my responsibility to comply with this particular fictitious law. If I could keep weapons concealed at home that would allow me to protect my family without detection, you can count on it that I would do so.

I will take the 5th.

I will take the 2nd.
