I don't think it was a conscious effort to "abuse power." It's as simple as letting the kid get to him and losing his cool. Like I said, I've not seen the video and don't plan to. However, if this is in a dorm hall and their were other residents of the dorm around, I'd say the kid should have been hooked on DC.

I agree the kid was wrong and deserves punishment but I learned all I needed to know about the cop when he found out he was on video. He was like a kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar. His voice started to crack and he couldn't get out of that room fast enough.

It's possible he had before and got no where because of it.

 

I don't think it was the case here but people do extreme things, when they believe they are wronged, to prove a point. This extreme situation proved that officer would abuse his power.

 

You could be right. The issue isn't the kid though. The officer overstepped his authority and came across poorly.

Expressing your opinion is fine, it's the opinion that is classless. I'd like to see someone come into your job, if you have one, bait you into messing up by provoking you and then you lose your income and worry about your family. I really don't care about you taking backwater and trying spin your statement to look less classless. You said it all by "enjoying the video" and being "glad he was fired."

 

I dont give a rip what you CLAIM UK PD was like in the 90's. I've been to College and I know just how big of jackasses college kids can be, so I can see where some officers on a campus could adopt a "zero tolerance for BS from spoiled brats" can happen. Me doing my job has cost plenty of people their jobs (or so they claimed). Did they at the end of the day make the decision to do the things they did to cause their own firing? Yup, did I do my job? Yup, but I have never went home at the end of the day and thought, "man, I'm glad they're gonna get fired!" In fact my thoughts are " I hate to see anyone lose their job, but they made the decision to do what they did."

And in this case he would have had video evidence that the officer abused his power. He could have stated his position without all of the name calling and baiting. If the officer then disregarded his 4th amendment rights like he did all he would have to do is take the video to the school. Anything found in his fridge or not in plain sight would have been inadmissable anyway.

I'm all about being reprimanded for your transgressions. Like I said, I do it almost all the time. Taking joy in it, is something sad people do. Misery loves company I suppose.

I was pulled over back in the summer by an NKU cop and I honestly had no idea they could do that.
