I like all of those guys, but if you are going to limit it to 11 on either side of the ball, for everyone you add, someone has to go. Who do they replace?

 

Jordan Nevels at LB is suspect. I think I will take him off my all time team and go with an Ulbricht. However, I don't think I will take Jim, instead I will go with the future Cornell Big Red Alum and leader of the Green Team, Brian Ulbricht (one of my favorite players). Drake Bruns at DB is another one that could be argued. If you replace him, who gets that spot? Andrew Abner maybe?

 

I also only included guys on one side of the ball. Certainly a guy like Brett Hamblin would certainly be one of the top guys at DB and maybe the Birds best return guy.

 

I only put John Schlarman on the DL to free up a spot on the OL. The OL candidates were much deeper IMO than the DL. Guys not included on the OL include Rob Reynolds (UK/Murray State), Zeke Reynolds (UNLV/NFL), Sonny Miller (Ball State), Tyler Grubbs (Miami of Ohio), Scott Wise (Holy Cross), just to name a few.

I, like many, think the '82 team had many players that need consideration. You nailed the one player from that team that I loved watching - Dave Fischer was an absolute beast of a NT.

Even though Tony is my buddy and I know he was an exceptional athlete, I was much too young to remember his exploits and he is much to modest to give me the details (the one exception being that TD he scored at Cawood).

 

Truth be told I am sure Tony could in be in the discussion for LB as well, I was reminded at a soccer game not too long ago that he was all state and he has told me about his exploits at UK and getting to partake of the feast at the team table; however, that list of linebackers is pretty strong. Who do we take off to put TD in?

I disagree, he was good but I don't think he was better than any of the other guys. Just my opinion but I went head to head with him a couple of times in my playing days. I'd probably replace him with either of the Reynolds brothers as well.

Zeke turned out to be a good college OL and made it to the pros. But I wouldn't say he was a great High School OL and didn't even start many games. It was after his surgery on his feet when he turned it around.

What? No love for the Gooch? The guy only out ran everybody on the field several times every game and was the QB that brought the Birds back from their longest Championship drought since the 50's. He was All State and NKY player of the year in 89. Gotta give him a little love.

Good luck naming a team. To try is an injustice. Fifteen state championships. Over one thousand players, and more than one hundred deserving mention. We have already begun to debate the choice of an All American and his worth on such a team. Please stop.

Well, there has only been one All American out of Highlands and that was Chuck Kyle and I believe the year was 1964. Of Course he was named in previous "the best of" but there hasn't been one since.

Henry, there have been several High School All Americans from Highlands since Mr. Kyle. Mostly in the last 15 years, but yes several. If you are talking college All American that is a different story. We are talking Highlands players, so what they did in college or beyond is not really the question at hand.

You are correct. I didn't word that the best. Chuck Kyle as an All American is a really cool accomplishment. I don't believe Highlands has had another since.
