Featured Replies

I have read that there have been some great QB's out of Highlands and I want to know who was the best. Please state why you think so.

Lorenzen was the best I have seen. He was a great athlete and when in HS weighed about 250 or so. He had a cannon for an arm, was smart, and could really run too. He was simply a great athlete as he had great feet for a guy as big as he was. Keep in mind he started as a sophomore on the basketball team that made it to the state finals and won the region his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.

He QB'd HHS to two state championships and EASILY could have had three. In his sophomore year, HHS lost the famous "mud bowl" game against CovCath. HHS basically had the game won in regulation and let Cov Cath tie it up and eventually win in multiple OT's. That game was basically the state championship game that year.

While I love Guidugli, Towles, McCoy and others, I think Lorenzen is the best I have seen.

mud game was in Jareds Jr. year...

I would have to say Jared Lorenzen. He definitely the most entertaining because he was a freak of nature. He had the best arm I have ever seen. He was a great runner and had more size than most defensive or offensive linemen plus really good speed. It was always interesting to see a defensive back try to figure out how he was going to tackle Jared. I think he was listed at 260 pounds as a senior and I think this was a real underestimation. He and DereK Smith at receiver were a true spectacle and impossible to stop.

I guess my memory is fading then! Sorry. I still say Lorenzen was the best HHS QB I have seen.

I believe Lorenzen was the starting QB for only one state champion team, the 1998 Highlands squad (his senior year).

For what it's worth, Lorenzen and Towles are the only Highlands players to ever win Mr. Kentucky Football.

My vote is for Towles.

You are correct, he won one as a starter. Gino is by far the most underrated. He holds all of the big passing records.

He is not underrated by me. I think he was great...I would say second behind Jared but not by much. Keep in mind that Jared has a Super Bowl ring. I loved watching Gino at HHS and UC. What a four year run for HHS having two years of Jared and then two years of Gino!

It's tight for me between Lorenzen and Towles.

Tough call but I'm going with Lorenzen. He had a huge arm and was very nimble with his feet. It was almost like watching a QB go freestyle with him. He could run around in the pocket for days and then hit a wide open Wr for a huge TD.
