Ludlow Coaching Situation?

Featured Replies

Just to throw in my two cents..... I think he left for the money... and the fact that he used Ludlow as a stepping stool to get to the Ohio side of the River. Ludlow is a fine school and good small town program so I cant imagine him leaving for any other reason.

On the Bellevue front, I know they were senior laden and one dimensional but what great Bellevue Team ever wasnt one dimensional???? Power Running game, more sweeps this year with Lincoln Adams but mainly they are a power team. I watched them beat Beechwood at home this year and the Adams kid clearly could run circles around anyone on the Tigers team. Only reason they lost in playoffs is because of Pass Defense and the fact that NCC loaded every man in the box.

It is always a cyclical thing at the small schools due to the fact that enrollment is always up and down. Outside of Beechwood who has the reputation year in and year out and can get the kids that are on the fence to either go to cov cath and NCC who has many of their players living in Ft. Thomas, Bellevue, Dayton, etc.... Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow, these schools pull from one area..... their respective cities and that is after many of the better athletes are picked at by the Catholic schools.

I am not surprised NCC won the state championship... nor am I surprised Beechwood is there most yrs.........

Tell us about the Program there at Ludlow. What would make it an enticing coaching job or is it?

Very good school system. Seems to be a small, tight-knit community who supports their team.

Downside: Beechwood, NCC.

Ludlow does have a very tight nit community. Always a lot of fans at the games whether they seem to be winning or losing. Whoever takes over as coach has a legit shot at making the playoffs and fighting for a playoff spot every year.

How are the Facilities?

The stadium is an older one right on the Ohio River not far at all from the actual school. Very nice grass surface with practice room behind one goal post.

It is an older facility but a lot of the community, players, and coaches got together last year and gave the stadium a major face lift. It looks really good now.

Wow I cant believe I haven't heard about this yet, but if this is true I wish Coach Hensley the best of luck.

I admit I am very sad to see him go, but I dont think the players or anyone should feel portrayed. I know it is hard to see him go, but we all should just be thankful for the job he did at Ludlow. It is because of him that football program is where it is, if he didn't come along who knows if the football program would have kept going because it was on a big down slide before he came.

I know I for one am very thankful to coach Hensley. I started varsity all four years at the school when I was there so I was on the team and had to deal with the long losing streak from my freshman to junior year. I know I was wondering I ever would get to win a game. But then he came in and completely turned the program around and not only got us our first win, but led us to the playoffs. He made my last year of ever playing football a very memorable one and I am so thankful for that.

I know we all wish he could stay, but we should be thankful for what he did. Who ever will be coming in will be getting into a good situation with alot of starters returning. I know whoever takes over will have hard shoes to fill because Coach Hensley was loved by everyone in the Community, but whoever takes over will still be in a good situation. I know I would like to see Randy Borchers get the job now because I believe he can pick up where Coach Hensley left off.

So Coach Hensley I just want to Thank you again for everything you have done for the program and the community and I want to wish you the best of luck on your new job, Im sure you will do great things there like you have at Ludlow.

Money aside I can think of two (and now with Coach Eckstein at Bellevue) three reasons why anyone at Dayton, Ludlow or Covington Holy Cross might look for greener pastures. :D

I dont think Coach Eckstein has anything to do with it. I dont believe Coach Eckstein is a better coach than Coach Hensley at all. Coach Eckstein just happened to have a great senior class last year. Other than both schools are pretty much the same and both coaches are building strong programs. It would be a battle between Hensley and Eckstein for the 3 and 4th playoffs spots every year if Hensley had stayed here.

It would probably be a battle between who has more talent at Bellevue, Ludlow, Dayton and Holy Cross. Coaching only matters when the talent level is similar. Last year Ludlow beat Holy Cross. This year Holy Cross beat Ludlow. Was Hensley a better coach than Kozerski last year, but Kozerski was better than Hensley this year. Probably not! Kozerski had more talent this year. Hensley had more talent last year.

Why do you think Highlands was good before Mueller and will be good after Mueller. Same with Beechwood and NewCath. Talent wins...

Borchers is a good choice . Is He an NCC grad ?

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Hensley have good talent at Ludlow when he took over? I know he had to talk some kids into coming back out for the team, but those kids were also athletic. I know for a fact he had one of the best quarterbacks the school has had in recent memory, as well as experienced kids in other key positions. Once again, I may be wrong on this matter, but to say that Dave Eckstein "just happened to have a great senior class" sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. Make no mistake, Coach Hensley did a great job in restoring the pride into the Panther football program. However, it does help to have some talented kids to go along with your coaching. He had mediocre talent this year, and look what happened. Dave Eckstein always had mediocre talent in Carroll County, and always seemed to put together good teams.

Side note - Randy Borchers will be a good fit for the program.

I don't know that much about the Coach from Ludlow. I know that he took them to the playoffs and that his team ended a very long losing streak in Nky a couple of years ago. But to leave for Taylor not disrepecting anyone he can do better than that. I remember we played them over there in 94 my senior year. The only thing I remember about them is that one of their end zones went up a hill.

Sounds to me as well just by reading everything on here he would be a good choice for the job.

I know we did have talent here, but that talent meant nothing. I mean we got killed everygame and wasn't close in any game. So you would think some of the talent would have kept some of the games close, but no it didn't. It took him to come here to get that talent to take place and get alot of these kids to be as good as they are and were.

As for this year they had to replace everyone of their starters and then one of the best backs in NKY in the middle of the year, but he still got them to be very competitive. They were real close in making the playoffs. They had great games with both Holy Cross and Dayton but just came up a little short at the very end. So he just about made it there with the mediocre talent of having all new starters.

Coach Eckstein didn't always have mediocre talent at Carroll County. He had a very talented teams. I believe his class of 04 was almost starting for 3 years straight, I know that they were good and talented because I played against them. But then once they lost those players they started to go down, and look he left to go to a different team to now in Bellevue.

I believe your about Borchers being a good choice for the job now though because he knows the players and should be able to keep the program in the right track.
