Work with someone who knows NKU coach Bezold personally. He called the coach while I was there and Bezold said he would ofer Hatton today if he thought he could get him.

So, don't offer him?

Redford doesn't have the Hatton toughness and street smarts IMO. Stats are fine but Hatton has the killer instinct and is a different breed than Redford.

I'm just making a comparison to a similar type of player regarding height, size, ability at the D1 level. IMO, Hatton is not a high major D1 player. He plays the 2 guard spot and scoring is his best attribute by far. However, to play high major D1 Hatton doesn't fit the prototype. Are there exceptions? Of course there are. Maybe he can be that exception. For example, look at Jordan Hulls at Indiana right now.

My point being is that to say Hatton is "too good" for NKU is not true. More than just scoring ability and shooting range factor in college recruitment. He is simply undersized and lacks quickness for high major D1 level, IMO. A perfect example is Elisha Justice playing at U of L and then transferring to Pikeville to play. Justice had the best all around game we have seen in quite some time but he struggled to transfer that over to the level of Big East play.

You have understand that you can waste resources in the college landscape. I understand that BH is only a stones throw from NKU but they have to be realistic and not waste time if they know they are not going to land someone. I would also hope that Bez has a great grasp on if he can land BH because a former player of Bez's is on the staff at Dixie.

I agree if the conversation has been had and it is understood that BH does not have ANY interest in NKU.

However, I would think that the athlete should keep all doors open until they make their commitment. I find it hard to believe that he would shut this door already if he didn't already know he had one of his higher ranked schools in the bag.

Just like colleges string athletes along during the recruiting trail, it is only fair and would make sense that the athlete do the same. Perhaps the phrase 'string them along' isn't the correct wording, however, that is what comes to mind.

If, for example, the athelete has NKU listed as #5 on their list, then before shutting that door, they better have #1 - #4 ready to make them an offer.

If I am Bezold and he fits into what I am trying to accomplish at NKU and he would be a fit, what does it hurt to offer him and put a timetable on it. I don't think that is wasting resources, etc..

Just my thought.

100% dead on.

He is definitely NOT "undersized" standing at least at 6'2" (more like 6'3") and being very thick and strong. I'm 6' on the dot and look up at him when I stand next to him. And while he may not be the quickest player to ever play at the (high) DI level, he certainly wouldn't be the slowest. The combination of his size, skill, strength and shooting range enable him to create shots for himself against "superior" athletes. I've seen several of his AAU games this past summer playing against (and with) legit DI talent and he more than held his own.

Unfortunately for Brandon the coaches disagree so far.

All I know is that BH has played at the highest level of aau since 1st grade. He has played with and against the best players in the country and has always held his own against anyone period. I personally believe way way to many people and scouts put to much stock in the prototype player. Scouts walk into a gym see a kid catch an oop and think he is great. Doesn't matter if he can shoot, dribble or have any basketball IQ. BH is playing in the EYBL this summer and if he holds his own there I think all of the questions should be answered.

Another example ... Richie Farmer. Arguably the greatest shooting high school #2 guard in Kentucky history and it took probation and a thin roster for him to get on the floor at UK.

There are lots of examples of "undersized, too slow, not athletic enough" players who don't get the proper attention they should have...

• Stephen Curry - 6'3" / 180 "He lacks great height, length or strength, and possesses below average lateral quickness, making ..."

• Chris Lofton - 6'0 / 190

as well as "prototypical" physical specimens who don't quite pan out.

I believe BH has all the intangibles to be a big-time collegiate player... the biggest one possibly being heart. He plays with tremendous focus and passion and is a FIERCE competitor.

That is a fair assessment.

Still early. Think he would fit in well in either A10 or MAC....Considering he wants to get away for school though, doubt he ends up in either league.

Hatton is much quicker and more athletic than some of you are giving him credit for. The kid is only a Jr. Bigger offers will come. Dave Telep said the biggest question is who does he guard at the next level. Offensively, "he gets buckets against anyone, regardless of competition."

I would agree with that. I haven't seen him facing the 6'4" athletic #2 that he probably has gone against in AAU and will see most nights at the high D1 level. I assume he has been able to score against that player in AAU or Telep wouldn't have said "he gets buckets against anyone". That would be the only other question I would have about him at high D1 - can he score against that D1 level #2?

If he is 6'2" or 6'3", then Jake Schulte's 6'10" or 6'11". Somebody's taken a page out of the BigGreenHorse's playbook!
