Congratulations to the Jumpers too, great season. I was pulling hard for you guys this week and was really hoping to see you win your first state championship this season. Sounds like it was a heck of a game and you left it all on the field. Can't ask for more than that.

Congratulations to the Breds and good luck in BG. You all won a hard fought battle. Congratulations to the Briar Jumpers on a great season. This senior class is one of the most successful in SHS history. 4 region titles and a state runner up.

You obviously were not there, are trying to stir the pot, or have know idea what you are talking about. The entire game was a one score ball game until 1:47 to go in the 4th when NCC scored to make it 27-12. SHS drove and scored but ran out of time. Great game. The Breds were the better team tonight but this was an evenly matched game.

Cain was the difference in this game with his accuracy. The o line gave him the time and he delivered big time. :thumb:

Great year Jumpers. I'm proud of you guys. Seniors, I know it hurts right now but you have a lot to be proud of: 47-10, winningest class ever, 4 District Championships, 4 Regional Championships, 1 State Runner-Up, 5-0 against Danville, 4-0 against Pulaski and Southwestern. You were a credit to the Gold Headgear and you'll be missed. Underclassmen, you've got a tradition to uphold...

Hard fought game, was 13-12 NCC in the 4th. Jumpers did a pretty good job against #44 and the run but Cain and NCC receivers killed us tonight. Somerset had trouble getting off of the field all night on third down.

Jumper Dad, that's a good evaluation of the game. CK, nothing wrong with school pride, you just got to understand NCC's path this year their were some growing pains and injuries. Stop putting stock in the power rankings. Somerset, good year!

The 1st game the Breds played on natural grass in over two months and it showed at times, as Hayes and Smith could not stay on their feet when they tried to make cuts. However, a lot of the credit goes to the Somerset defensive line......wow what a load!!!! By far the best team they have played since Campbell Co. and probably the BIGGEST. :notworthy: Somerset had a nice game plan to take Hayes and Smith out of the return game on kickoffs as they pooch kicked. The 1st half was over in a flash and was nothing more than smash mouth football. The Breds take the opening kickoff and get into Somerset territory, however following a nice pass from Cain to Franzen, Franzen is stripped of the ball at the Briar Jumpers 25. The Jumpers move the ball but return it to the Breds who score late in the quarter.

 

Early in the 2nd the Jumpers have it 1st and goal from the 5, and on 4th and goal from the 1 the Breds jump offsides and the ball is moved to the half yard line. Not much you think???? On the next play the Jumpers score and that half yard was the difference has the Breds bring the "house" and almost stop them. It looked like the Breds were going to add to their led but with 4:14 left in the 2nd Quarter, Cain fumbles on the Somerset 6 yard line and a Breds scoring opportunity is lost. The Breds get the ball back with less than a minute but the drive ends as a Cain pass is tipped and intercepted. 7-6 Breds at the half.

 

Somersets 1st possession of the 2nd half leds to a score as Hatcher throws deep to Lange(the kid can flatout fly) who beats 2 defenders to the endzone. The Breds take the led for good on their next drive that is kept alive on a difficult 4th and 5 catch by TE Tyler Lyon. Following Hayes' TD he is inches short of the 2pt conversion and its 13-12 Breds.

 

The NewCath "D" continued to hold Somerset out of the redzone and then go on a long , time consuming drive that is kept alive by the accurate passing of Josh Cain and is finally capped off by the "fire plug" that is lineman turned running back Brady Thacker who goes untouched from a few yards out. Somerset is know pressed into passing the ball and goes nowhere and the Breds get the ball back near midfield following the punt with 3:19 remaining. Know it's time to chew up the clock and the Breds do a great job of wacthing the play clock wind down before taking the snap. Somerset's defense is not giving up, however on a failed 3rd and 10 play the Briar Jumpers are called for a personal foul and the Breds get a fresh set of downs with 1:59. The Breds run on the next 2 plays, but on 3rd and 5 Cain fakes the handoff and launches one to the streaking Mac Franzen who catches the ball falling into the endzone with a Briar Jumper draped all over him. The Jumpers score on the final play of the game, but that's your ballgame.

 

Star of the game for the Breds......Josh Cain, 15/24 166 (had 3 or 4 dropped). He has turned into one hell of a QB. However the NewCath "D" played GREAT....Elliot Rust, Quinn Anost, Jack Sutkamp and Kalvin Moore (seemed to be in on every tackle) these guys were knockem' dead tonight. Hats off to the whole team and a great job to the COACHES.

 

To the Somerset Briar Jumpers, you played like champions tonight and should be proud of what you have accomplished not only this season, but the last 4. Trust me, NewCath fans know this was too close for comfort.

No possible way you can mention the NCC defense without two words: Brady Thacker. He is the heart and soul of the NCC defense. Thacker had at least 12 tackles in the game and probably avergages at least 10 a game if not more. NCC defense is great unit and they all do their part but as you saw earlier in the year when Mr. Thacker was injured, they are a totally different team with him in their busting heads.

I think anyone who knows anything about this NewCath team knows that Brady is the MAN. :notworthy: A healthy Brady Thacker is what has made a BIG difference in this team's overall success. Losing him for the entire season last year could have been the difference between the Breds going for 3 State Titles in a row. :idunno:
