November 20, 201213 yr Morehead State Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson has announced that Head Football Coach Matt Ballard’s contract will not be renewed after it expires in December. November 23, 201213 yr It is a great same that they did that to Morehead State's greatest coach. Morehead State lost a great coach with Coach Ballard and his defensive coordinator Coach Gilliam. They were both class acts that truly cared about the players that played for them. Not sure why the AD would want to make a change...he was the winiest head coach in Morehead State history...he has had more winning seasons then any other coach. He has no scholarships to work with and plays major competition in 1-AA level. Doesn't make sense to me. Good luck to Coach Ballard and Coach Gilliam on where ever they land.

I'm a big fan of coach Ballard and Gilliam and think they do a great job with an underfunded program with little to offer players but a chance to continue playing. Both are great leaders and have represented MSU with class. Good luck to them. Not sure they will be able to any better with the next hire.

Over the years, we have identified obstacles to our success and have been diligent in addressing them. The results have been consistent for a few seasons now, and it is time to change leadership.” 1. No scholarships. 2. Horrible training facilities-worse than most HS teams 3. Weight room is awful. For Phil Simms to have his name on it is an embarrassment. My garage is bigger. 4. A non scholly school should be doing something to attract players. If you cant do it with aid, do it with facilities, dorms, something to get an advantage. (Check out the renovations at Butler, new field, campus housing at the field, locker room and weight room renovations).
