I thought that after the loss to Stanford they were knocked out of the PAC 12 championship? I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what happened. I still feel they are more deserving than K State. They lost to a top 15 team in OT, not blown out by a .500 team like K State was.

Oregon needs help to win the Pac 12. If Stanford beats UCLA, Oregon will finish as runner-up in their division and therefore won't even play for it. Don't you worry about Florida. They won't win the Saturday.

Correct. UCLA has to beat Stanford this Saturday for Oregon to have any shot. The Oregon game at Oregon State will not be an easy task either.

I would never support the runner up of a division whose winner of said division didn't win the conference title game.

If 3 best teams in the country are in same conference or division if you have 3 or more teams playing to win a championship then they should be in. Kent State in the top 25 in BCS and they cannot beat Kentucky so best teams need to play for championship no matter how many schools out of same conference.

You would be rewarding FL for losing to UGA during the season. Can't happen.

No. LSU won the SEC Championship game last year, so Alabama was the runner up in the division that won the championship.

My bad. I misread Clyde's original post.

If Georgia beats Bama in SEC championship game and both win this Saturday then no problem with Georgia playing in National Championship game. On the other hand if Notre Dame were to lose this week and Florida beats Florida St. and Georgia loses to Bama the Florida over Georgia because Georgia lost bad to South Carolina and did not have to play LSU or Texas A@M during regular season.

Georgia beats Alabama in the SEC title game, USC beats ND, and Florida beats FSU, we've got Georgia vs. Florida for the title.

That is the thing that is wrong with college football. We don't know if say 3 or 4 teams from the same conference truly are better than the rest, etc. Because guess what all the teams they basically play are other teams in the conference. It is called a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. I hate how we use opinions to determine who is the best and who should be in the game. As we have seen the eyeball test is a poor way to evaluate too, because the eyeball test would have shown that no way a team like Stanford beats Oregon. College football is just completely messed up in how it does things.

They need to go to say an 8 team playoff where you have 6 automatic bids from teams who win their conference and 2 at large. This way it becomes more of a true National Champion instead of a conference champion like last year. The regular season still matters this way, but you also are proven yourself against the other best teams from across the country.

In fact if Notre Dame can go on to win the National Title this year, they would be the first true NATIONAL Champion in a long time. With actually going out and playing teams across the country in different conferences, and some some good ones at that.

If they beat USC how many really good wins do they have? I say 2. How many good wins? I say 1. So 3 out of 12.

Their schedule doesn't compare to that of Florida's or most SEC teams. They beat Stanford (a great win), Oklahoma and Michigan. Pitt, Navy, Wake, BC, Purdue very poor opponents. BYU, Michigan State, Miami average. I don't think they would be any more or any less true than any other title winner the past 5 years.

You can go to any teams schedules and find poor opponents. You can find most teams having games that they just show up and win against the lowest of the low Division 1 teams or not even division 1 teams. While some of the teams may not have been good, they were still teams that a team would have to play good to beat. Just look at the other undefeated team in Ohio State who had close game with some not so good teams to in Purdue and Indiana.

Also I was talking about how it would be a true NATIONAL championship, key word being national. Right now in college football it is like we are crowning conference champions national champions. It could be the same way this year if two SEC teams are put in there based on opinion. The only real teams they have beat would be from the SEC mainly. We wouldn't know how they would do say if they played a top team from another conference. We can assume they would win, but we could have assumed Oregon would have won too. That is why the college football system stinks! It is all based on opinion and not determined on the field. I am a Notre Dame fan and if Notre Dame wins this week the process will work out for them. However I still say there should be a playoff to give other great teams a chance.

I'd be awfully surprised.
