Well you can't have it both ways. Either take the responsibility of health insurance off of employers entirely by having a centralized insurance system or you put the burden on employers. Currently, you have to offer health benefits to anyone working 40 hours per week. This is why folks in retail and restaurant work only get 39 hours per week to work. Most have 2 part time jobs as it is. Obama-care is reducing this to 30.

 

It has become too expensive for each state to have its own health insurance regulatory framework. Insurers have to cope with 50 different systems and this is a barrier to entry. One federal framework, that is administered and implemented by the states would be more efficient and promote more competition among insurers.

PS - Heaven forbid we have food service workers that are healthy and free of contagious diseases. We can't have that, now.

The real question is: how much are you willing to spend on a pizza?

in Jan of 2009 the national debt was a little over 10 trillion; it now exceeds 16 trillion. Make no mistake about it, the national debt will approach 25 trillion by 2016. As more people are laid off/let go, more will apply for assistance (and deservedly so), and this doesn't scratch the surface of the aging population. Where everyone thinks the "free" stuff comes from I do not know. Our economy will continue on this path until we can no longer borrow, but that is probably a long ways away as we are pretty powerful in terms of military might if nothing else. The rock bottom is probably 20-30 years away, which makes me ache for my grandkids.

 

(note: I make about 55K per year and live in a modest home. I am nowhere close to rich. My college degrees are in Finance and Political Science and I don't always vote Republican. I just think that in the last 30 years that I have voted, this election was particularly polarizing and boiled down to personality and perception much more than it did to people really having a deep understanding of the issues/consequences.)

Last time I check, you would still have to pay under the AHCA to be covered. But then again, I could be wrong.

I love it. PapaJohn's can give away 2 million free pizzas, but can't spring for healthcare.

 

The franchises are not his.

 

Its the franchise owners who can not afford the bill.

 

Can Papa Johns corporate or Applebee's corporate afford ACA? Maybe. Can the much smaller franchises that are on much smaller margins and much more highly leveraged? Less likely. The 2 million pizzas are coming from Papa, not the franchise owners.

 

So they will cut everyone's hours to 27.9 and not provide them insurance. Then the employees will have to buy the insurance from the state exchanges - assuming their state offers an exchange and pay for it with their 27 hour a week pay. Vs. having some moderate insurance and making 40 or more hours of pay in a week. If their state has no exchange - and many will not it looks like they get the penal...oops...sorry...tax (according to the supreme court).

 

So the employees get less hours, no insurance at all and they have to pay an extra tax the following year.

Papa John's is the worst ran pizza franchise in the world. I worked there for 5 years of my life and I had already vowed to never pay for their crap pizzas ever again before Schnatter started crying. If the state finals were still played at Papa John's stadium I wouldn't go. He's an idiot.
