Companies cut hours - citing Obamacare

Featured Replies

Various companies have gone public with how they are dealing with the impact of the Affordable (?) Healthcare Act.

Here are 3 with from the region.

Papa Johns

CEO of Papa John's says employees' hours will likely be cut due to ObamaCare | Fox News

"The CEO of popular pizza chain Papa John's says his employees may face reduced hours and he expects his business costs to rise because President Obama's re-election most likely insures the president's health care reform law will be implemented in full.

...

he said he expects franchise owners will be forced to cut employees' hours because they can't afford the costs of health insurance plans."

Applebee's

Applebee’s CEO Announces Hiring Freeze And Layoffs Over Obamacare, Boycott Threatened

"“We’ve calculated it will [cost] some millions of dollars across our system. So what does that say — that says we won’t build more restaurants. We won’t hire more people. If you have 40 or 50 employees at a restaurant, and the penalty is $2,000, and you’re going to pay $80,000 or $100,000 penalty, there goes the profit in your restaurant."

Krogers

Kroger to Slash Hourly Workers to Avoid Obamacare Penalties | Flopping Aces

"Kroger is doing this to avoid paying for full-time healthcare for employees who currently only receive part-time benefits. And they will not get hit with the $3000 penalty."

I still think that companies will quickly - in next two years - just get out of the health care benefit game all together. The act did nothing to save costs at all. The new regulations will limit hours for lower end workers at places like restaurants and groceries. And it almost seems like the new 'work week' is going to 27.9 hours. It will be interesting to see what other companies do.

It is definitely going to be interesting to see how the rollout of Obamacare unfolds, how it changes, how companies adapt and the impact it has on health care costs. There is clearly going to be an adjustment period that everyone will need to work through. The market will work all this out. I can see companies making these cuts, then losing employees to competitors and having to make another policy change to effectively operate their business.

Can't say I'm surprised. The Affordable Care Act was (and still is) an awful awful idea.

I also think that some companies are doing it out is spite, not all, but some. There was one company on Friday who gave all of his employees raises, after he said during the entire election process that is Obama wins there would be cuts.

I love it. PapaJohn's can give away 2 million free pizzas, but can't spring for healthcare.

I haven't done the research, but I think healthcare costs exceed a pizza.

The real question is: how much are you willing to spend on a pizza?

I told everyone I knew that I was voting for the America that my kids will inherit... I want them to have real health care, not this force fed big government "solution" that is absolutely nothing more than a "this will get the poor folks out there to vote for me" ploy. Sadly, a little more than 50% of Americans are looking for someone to take care of them. Very sad.

I heard somewhere that Papa John's could cover all of their employees by charging just 15 cents extra per pizza. I'm willing to spend the extra $0.15.

Mitt? ... is that you?

And why would anyone eat that stuff he calls pizza?

HAHA! CLASSIC! Classic yet sad! So EVERYONE who voted for Obama is just looking for people to take care of them. With talk like that, R's may as well kiss 20016 goodbye right now, LOL!

Please conservatives, keep it up with this handout crap and see how many elections you win. The real health care you speak of had us ranked 37th in the world even though our per capita spending is #1, now with the AHCA we can spend less and get better care.

37th in the world based on what.

I'm going to have to spend about double, and our coverage will be diminishing as well, so you couldn't be more wrong.

Healthcare is not a right, it's a privilege. You can't afford it, sucks to be you. So sick of entitlement programs.
