Simon Kenton's Cam Racke kicked off of and then reinstated to the Simon Frosh Team

Featured Replies

Everyone pretty much covered this but Racke was only reinstated to the team after his parents went to the Coach, AD, and Principal and told all of them the school board was next if they didn't put him back on the team.

How awkward it must be now for the young player. I wonder if the coach will play him or cut his time on the floor. In the end the coach has the final say on playing time.

I honestly don't think kids care. It's more awkward for the adults than kids playing IMO.

Dude go back to your Jordan Avatar !!! :irked:

I suppose that depends on how the Coach handles the whole situation with the kid in question. I heard Simon's coach was really rough on the kid.

Given that participation in athletics is a privilege and not a right, exactly what leverage do you think the school board has? Coaches have the discretion to cut anybody they deem fit. Especially an 8th grader playing up on freshman ball.

With this athletic administration, threats, even implied, get you sent packing quickly. More likely, something was worked out.

I am just the messenger but in short he got booted for attending the CCH open house, the parents complained and then he got reinstated. Call it whatever you like but they did complain and they made it clear it was a Crusade! (Crusade is my word and I believe it is fitting and could only be more fitting if it was St. Henry's open house)

I'd think that many parents would do the same. Coach, AD, Principal, and the BOE? Sounds like the whole chain of command. Wonder if the next visit was to a local loud mouth attorney. LOL.

Is Cam playing at Highlands Saturday? Did he play in the Kelsey? was playing time impacted?

Here is how I see it:

By Laws say that once you play in a HS game you cannot play in NKMSAA games.

Simon Kenton coach pulled him up to play HS ball when he was a 7th grader.

The 8th grader now has no other team to play for during his 8th grade season.

Sure it stinks for SK that the kid is interested in a different HS than SK.

But the SK coach set up the potential of this happening by pulling him up as a 7th grader.

Did he get any varsity minutes or are we talking about Frosh basketball? Assuming it was just Frosh.

And made right by it... I still don't see the big deal here.

No...

It's dangerous when anyone other than the coaching staff determines who is on the team. If I am Cameron or his parents, why would I want him to play for a staff that previously cut/kicked him from the team? What if two games in Cameron gets chewed out by his coach? What if other players suddenly play better than him and see more minutes? If everyone knows that the staff was inclined to leave him off the team, how can they possibly coach the season with this hanging over their heads?
