RSkinner has it correct. Final decision as made earlier this morning by both AD's and it will be SATURDAY at 7:00 PM at NEWPORT HS.

 

HC had the Sports Nite Fundraiser on Friday night and NCC wanted to play Thursday night until they realized exams were next day so they settled on Saturday.

They should play Friday night at PBS.

That would help the fundraiser as well....

Well someone's season just got extended for an extra day... The best question is... Who the heck is in charge of fundraising at Holy Cross? They need to get with the program

It is NOT much to do about about nothing for people who scheduled other important events for Saturday night, assuming that FRIDAY night is high school football night.

I think it is fantastic. It gives me the opportunity to check out two playoff games this week.

It shows the class of NewCath by being willing to play on Saturday. They could have easily said no games are on Friday, deal with it. This also shows lack of respect on the HC powers at be toward an opponent. The Breds have to much class to say shove it, but I would have loved to see them do it. Breds by 35 with multiple 15 yard penalties called on the Indians.,

These are major silly remarks considering that NCC has played three times on Saturday this year already. Two of those were home games. I don't know why the Simon Kenton game was played on a Saturday night, but I do know that the Lloyd game was played on Saturday afternoon because NCC had a Texas Holdem event that night. I'm not going to question that at all because I know how important private Catholic high school fundraisers are to the survival of the schools. The HC Sports Night is not just about football - it supports ALL the sports programs at Holy Cross. I am sure the event schedulers knew exactly what was going on but their hands were tied. There are several considerations - the speaker's availability and the venue (in this case Paul Brown Stadium) are just two of them. Our personal plans on Saturday night are not on that list. As much as we would like to think that there is gamesmanship going on, it is not true. It is all about the two Catholic schools working together to find the most optimal time for the game to be played. The KHSAA guidelines give flexibility for these situations. This is not college nor the NFL. It would have been just as wrong to schedule the game on Thursday night and affect NCC's exams. An agreement has been reached. Time to give it a rest.

Its a shame the class has not slipped into the minds of the NCC supporters on here. I agree and I am sure most fans would that it is easier to play on a Friday night but it isnt happening. So some class yourself.

Just out of curiosity I wonder if the tables would have been turned would HC be willing to accommodate New Caths fundraiser.

You're missing the point! It's the idea that a group of people actually thought this through and figured they would be hosting a playoff on their way to a state championship, which isn't happening! I hope this was ego making this decision and not pure stupidity. Playing game on Saturday isn't big deal but their should be advantages to being the host team. You shouldn't have to ask the visiting team,"what night is good for you?". Those Saturday were because field issues not because one team's brain trust is lacking. I am not kidding myself. Holy Cross has NEVER hosted a second round playoff game (even last year). So there is no reason to believe that was part of the thought process this year. So that kills the "ego theory". Like I said it was a negotiation process. I was not there, but I'm sure it was something like the HC AD making a call to NCC AD and they discussed it. NCC AD could have told HC to "go take a leap" however I doubt that happened. If they could not work it out to reasonable satisfaction, I'm sure there is a mediating process or the game is played on the Friday night anyway. Maybe the HC AD owes the NCC AD a favor (who knows)? These schools have a vested interest in seeing each other succeed financially that is higher than a football game. Whether it be a major fundraiser, Texas Holdem, exams, a prom, a senior retreat, or a festival, the higher powers of these schools will continue to try to work with a limited school calendar and get these events in.
