Have Attitudes Toward Race Improved?

Featured Replies

Better in the 57 years I've been alive? Most definitely.

Better in the last decade or two? Not that I can see.

Hell no. How can relations improve when we've moved to a point to where people get defensive as soon as race is brought up. Acting like there isn't a problem doesn't improve the problem. Just because we have a black president doesn't mean racial relations have improved. I'm with mcpapa. In the last decade or two things are at a plateau.

Seems like it....at best.

America is becoming more racially dived everyday. Worse in big cites than small towns IMO.

No, not much that I've seen, and not just prejudice against blacks. There's plenty towards brown and white as well.

I do think the tolerance for a heartfelt and in depth conversation about race is at an all time low in my lifetime. Whether that is making us more racially divided or not I am not sure of but the conversations are shorter than what they used to be.

Sure is. I think the prejudice attitudes towards whites has always been there. It's just becoming louder and expressed in different ways nowadays.

I think brown gets it the worst. They get it from black and white.

Without question, I would say they have improved. But there is considerable room for continued improvement too.

Study says they've gotten worse in the last four years.

That might be right. I would say they have stayed the same over the last decade. But from the time I have been alive, racial attitudes have improved.

Agreed. Tough gig when everyone thinks you're going to blow something up or steal their jobs.

I think it has gotten worse on all levels. Black, white and brown, giving and receiving.

I don't think we've made much progress in the past few years but I don't think it's gotten a lot worse. I think it will continue to get better with each generation moving forward, I don't think that you can really evaluate racial divides and or progress dealing with racism in terms of years or really even decades. It takes a more accepting and educated generation to be followed up with an even more accepting, understanding and educated generation. For the most part that's the trend we've seen over the past 150 or so years in the US and I think it's one we will continue to see. It's never going to be perfect, racial divide has been around for thousands of years but I think it's getting better.
