October 27, 201214 yr I do think the tolerance for a heartfelt and in depth conversation about race is at an all time low in my lifetime. Whether that is making us more racially divided or not I am not sure of but the conversations are shorter than what they used to be. I grew up thinking a lot different than my parents and their generation. I believed that things have improved greatly, until recent years. My view for no improvement is because of race-baiters like Jackson and Sharpton playing the race card all the time. Are there still racial problems? Yes, but guys like Jackson and Sharpton just stir things up to keep their status and $ coming in. If they were to allow racial division to disappear, they would be out of work. I know this will upset you, but I know a lot of people who believed we were starting to leave the bigotry behind us and now think things are worse because of people like Jackson and Sharpton.
October 27, 201214 yr A bad economy and unemployment makes race worse. Help me see the logic in that statement.

Doesn't upset me. I've gotten over excuses from both sides on what the real problem. If people want to hate the messenger that's fine. At least listen to the message and then try to at least understand both sides of the message. Then and only then will things get better. Edited October 27, 201214 yr by PurplePride92
October 28, 201214 yr Author A bad economy and unemployment makes race worse. For weak-minded people.
October 28, 201214 yr For weak-minded people. And how much of our population is made up of weak-minded people? More than I care to count...
October 28, 201214 yr Help me see the logic in that statement. Jobs, when others see a race of different color doing good it causes resentment. For example, Mexicans, even though they do a job most of Americans wouldn't do, they still feel as if jobs are somehow being stolen.

For example, Mexicans, even though they do a job most of Americans wouldn't do, they still feel as if jobs are somehow being stolen. I don't think that environment creates racism, it simply gives people an excuse to display it.
October 28, 201213 yr Naw. Doesn't upset me. I've gotten over excuses from both sides on what the real problem. If people want to hate the messenger that's fine. At least listen to the message and then try to at least understand both sides of the message. Then and only then will things get better. I think I understand the difficulty (but will really know personally) of how it may feel if you we're treated a certain way simply because of skin color. I hope you understand that for those who are trying to put behind the wrongs of the past ,some of us hate hearing that when there are differences of opinion, those differences are of philosophy, not skin color. If I had not for for a Democract before 2012, do you think I was going to vote for Obama? Would like to add that while I wish to leave the wrongs of the past behind, We all should remember them to avoid having them repeated. Yet, I do not want guys like Jackson and Sharpton telling me everything is racist, because I have a different thought than they have.

Yet, I do not want guys like Jackson and Sharpton telling me everything is racist, because I have a different thought than they have. And that's why I say people need to listen to the message and not the messenger. Instead of people asking and searching for why Jackson and Sharpton are saying something is racist people are saying,"no it's not and no I'm not" instead of asking and searching for why it is perceived that way. I'm not defending Jackson or Sharpton at all either. Their post MLK methods have proven to be destructive but their message has some truths in it whether people want to believe it or not. Too many times on here I have simply tried to explain why things seem racist to black people and people still don't want to hear it. I've also defended white people on here who are accused of being racist because of differing opinions when I know for a fact they aren't racist at all. It goes both ways. People need to be listening from both sides. Until that happens we'll stay on that plateau.
October 29, 201213 yr To me it's all about the "CHARACTER" of the individual. I say it's time for a "big group hug".
October 30, 201213 yr A man is a man until he shows me otherwise. The race merchants, like Reverand Al and Jackson, will always make sure that the race business continues to flourish. Racism will always exist, we can only do our best to treat people right.
November 1, 201213 yr As I get older my eyes are opened to many different things. Being in college I have seen/heard some bad things..
