WV v Newport will be a really good first-round game.

 

I don't see Newport being a problem for Walton Verona. WV by 2 TD's or more.

Based on student population, Brossart needs to be back in 1A, where they should be after the next re-alignment.

That will at least allow them to compete in the district a little better (aside from Beechwood).

The program has a tremendous amount of potential, it needs to be harnessed and nurtured.....

 

Brossart lost the best Strength & Conditioning coach in NKY a couple of years ago when he left to open a private business....:sssh:

Not necessarily true on the realignment prediction. Brossart's present freshman class has 91 students BUT 61 of those are boys, which actually increases our enrollment numbers. I don't look for us to be going back to 1-A, although it would be a god-send, anytime soon.

You can't base it on student Population, you need to get the kids out, I bet they don;t have 30 kids in the program. NCC has maybe 60 and they are about the same size of School, next re-alignment Brossart and NCC might be in 1A.

 

Over 30 kids on the Brossart roster, HOWEVER, 11 of these are freshmen. We graduate 6 seniors which hypothetically increases our numbers next year automatically, IF all 11 of those freshmen, plus the 8th Grade Colts return for the 2013 campaign.

Brossart hasn't seem the same since they lost s few coaches that are now coaching at Holy Cross.

Mustang, is there going to be a head coaching change for next year, or should there be one? And what is your opinion of the coaching staff? I'm not trying to get you into any hot water with asking the question, but respect your opinion and support of the Brossart program and we all know you tell it how you see it. :thumb:

Matt Reinhart and I are colleagues and friends. He is in a very unenviable position. Right now Vince Lombardi could not take his player base and make them winners at the 2-A level, AND this is no knock on the kids on the team, there are simply not enough of them and there are varying degrees of skill levels among those players. You don't play freshmen quarterbacks unless you have to, and you don't utilize freshmen running-backs unless you need to. We would prefer those guys to be down a layer or two on the depth chart, but they are not, BUT so long as they stay injury-free, that which does not kill them, will benefit them.

 

IF we would make a coaching change it would probably be to breath new life into the program and generate some excitment and hope for a better future. He would have to be willing to take on a major challenge, and charismatic enough to get kids excited about playing football, and have them want to come play for him. As an example, if Coach Mike Code announced today that he was going to be the new football coach, regardless of how much he knows about the intricacies of the game, players and parents alike would have confidence that he would get 100% out of the players on the team and he would instill optimism and confidence within the program. Could he get the kdis to come out??? Good question. Whether we like it or not our kids go in a lot of different directions, with Golf, Cross-Country, Soccer, and Football being offered in the fall, and basketball looming in the winter. I don't think there are a lot of kids walking our halls unaffiliated with a sport that could actually help the football program, and I've already worn out the subject of basketball players playing football. It ain't gonna happen.

 

I also think the administration needs to decide if we are committed to the long-range future of football at Brossart and if so, make moves that will give our coaches and teams a level playing field with the competition in the way of financial support and facilities. Right now we are in the process of grading the present practice field on Gilbert Ridge. It is a step in the right direction, BUT only a first step. Maybe, and I said maybe, football (with NCC and Campbell County as neighbors with long-standing traditions and a long-term stint in 2-A in our future) doesn't work for us. IF we are going to bring in kids and have them choose us over NCC and Campbell County, then we better find a reason for them to make this choice. Right now, big fish in a small pond or travel logistics are our best attractants. Some physical signs and a long-term game plan are also needed.

 

Coaches are only one facet of the many variables that effect our program, albeit the most visible variable, and knowledge of the game, field decorum, intensity, development, etc., all contribute. Our seemingly "build it and they will come" attitude won't work for us. Being good salesmen, promoters, cheerleaders, etc., all help, but at the foundation of the program there needs to be substance and a game plan for the future. If there is one, we need to pursue it. If not, then, AND ONLY THEN, we might need to re-think it.

Seems like they need to move on from the redistricting issue and work on facilities and how to get more kids involved. Redistricting is what it is and there is no changing it for awhile.

What's the deal with some that play hoops? Do you have hoopsters that would make an impact on the football field? Do they fear getting injured and missing out on hoops season?

 

The 2nd bolded is going to be the biggest obstacle to hurdle, best of luck on that one.

I would think a field or working out a deal with Campbell County would be in Brossart's best interest. Tough to have 3 home fields in school history. Let's face it, being in 1A would benefit, but tough to argue how much when Bellevue isn't on the schedule & back to back losses to Dayton. Good luck, starting a program is tough, building & maintaining one is even tougher.

My facts may be slightly off but if I remember correctly, Brossart started their football program in a somewhat unorthodoxed way. Usually a program is started in middle school and those particular seventh graders become the first varsity squad when they are upperclassmen. Part of me thinks that Brossart started off with a freshman team and the following year those freshman became the varsity squad. My grade levels may be off but I am pretty sure their first varsity year was only one or two years after football was ever introduced. This may have something to do with BBHS not having an offical middle school. Do St. Joe's, St Mary's, or Peter and Paul have any sort of 8th grade team?

One problem for Brossart was going through three head coaches before playing their first game. Another was settling for a middle school assistant coach as head coach, and was not even the middle school head coach or a co-ordinator. His background comes from Scott High as a player and coach. Coach Matt never had the opportunity to learn what a winning program looks like or how to develop one.

I am one that really does not see that getting to 1A is that big of a "god send" or a program savor for Brossart. Looking at this season they might have beaten Ludlow for the 4 seed but certainly could not have beaten the other three schools.

Best BBHS post I've ever read. With that said, Coach Jeff Barth has to be the coach of the year for what he's done with Walton in his stint there. It was an honor to share the gridiron with you and I know you are shaping young men both on and off the field. Talk about buy in, ask them what they are doing there, because its definitely working.

Interesting and I'm sure somewhat surprising to the Brossart folks. If I remember correctly, when teams were re-classified, didn't some Brossart folks tell the KHSAA that they thought the Brossart boys' enrollment would be decreasing and should be moved to 1A?

 

Kudos to Brossart for growing their boys enrollment. I'd think that would be tough to do in this economy. I know the KHSAA caught some grief for not moving Brossart down to 1A at the time based on those declining enrollment predictions. I hope that those who gave the KHSAA grief now understand why the KHSAA can't base class decisions on predictions.
