Shocking: GM Going Bankrupt

Featured Replies

That's a common misconception. Trends show an increase in purchasing power in RTW states, as oppossed to lower wages. If RTW passed in Kentucky we would experience substantial job growth. I know for a fact unemployment would drop in Corning.

Your last line confuses me. Unemployment would drop in Corning. I don't know what you are meaning.

Are companies refusing to come to Kentucky because it is non-RTW?

Can do this all day.

The sky is falling down....the sky is falling down. :D

RTW states attract MORE businesses. Take a look at Indiana , who passed RTW this past year, they led the nation in job creation per capita.

Did you consent?
I certainly didn't .

Gotcha. Thanks for clarification.

So Joann Muller and a rating agency thinks that GM is in good shape. Great, at the same time they continue to lose market share even with the government providing incentives to purchase the inferior GM product. Long term GM is garbage.

Anyone know if GM/UAW ever eliminated the 'job banks' they started with the lines started converting to automation and robotics?

Thousands of workers went into these job banks. I believe drawing 90% of their salary. To literally do nothing. Some were 'in the bank' for years. They were supposed to be put back into work as the business grew but the productivity kept outpacing the need when they were growing. Then they started shrinking.

GM has some fundemental problems that did not go away in the last 'restructuring'.

We still own 26% of this pig. Unfortunately, it looks like there is no way to get OUR money back. The stock will likely drift down again in the same cycle as the first time.

BTW, I did lease a Cruz after the bailout and own a (Mexican made) Suburban. The products are fine. But the business has serious structural problems.

Promise me my job exactly as it is now with the same benefits, wages, healthcare, yearly raise, grievance process, seniority, job rights, etc and I'll be all for making Kentucky a RTW state. Promise me all of that and I'm in.

Then don't buy one. I have never met such a bunch of gloom and doom whiners that are down on anything American.

I'm not sold. I am no longer in the union where I work, and make twice as much as the top paid union employees. If the company you worked for was not doing well, some of the above mentioned would not be guaranteed come next contract time. Plenty of union employees make less today, and pay more for benefits than in prior years.

Let's get back to GM. They will eventually bankrupt because it's a failed business model.

How so?

Not at my plant. My company is doing well enough for us to still get a piece of the pie come contract time.

You're doing the exact same thing now non union as you were union? That is awesome. I'm certain Corning wouldn't double my salary but if they wanted to in order to get rid of the union I'd definitely entertain the discussion. Double my salary? With the same benefits, etc also? Write it up. I'll sign it now. I just don't see it happening.
