Shocking: GM Going Bankrupt

They have a choice. Don't apply. Plenty of jobs in my area that aren't unionized. Funny how everyone wants to come to Corning and join that unionized plant. Right to work is corporate greed run amok. There will be less jobs available with right to work. Too bad your blinders don't allow you to see otherwise.

You don't know what you're talking about and is apparent you haven't researched the topic. If unions are so great, why not make then voluntary? That's right. It's because in right to work states where businesses are going and jobs are being created, people decide they don't want to be involved and union membership is on the decline. So they do what they do best, like government, they use force.

Indiana Passes Right To Work — National Right to Work Committee Statement | The National Right to Work Committee®

For the past decade, non-agricultural employment in Right to Work states grew twice as fast compared to that in non-Right to Work states like Indiana, according to data from the Department of Labor.

“On the job front,” said Mr. Mix, “virtually every site selection consultant on record has testified that as many as half of their clients will not even consider expanding or relocating to non-Right to Work states.”

Governor Daniels experienced this problem firsthand, reporting recently that when Volkswagen was looking to build a production facility in America, he was unable to get the company to even return his phone calls.

Volkswagen ended up choosing to open its new facility in the Right to Work state of Tennessee.

Today’s action makes Indiana the first Right to Work state in the Manufacturing Belt, and supporters say it will give Hoosiers a significant advantage over all of its neighbors and the rest of the 27 non-Right to Work states.

“Besides enjoying an influx of new jobs, Right to Work states also enjoy higher personal income,” said Mr. Mix.

In particular, Mr. Mix drew attention to a study by Dr. Barry Poulson, a past president of the North American Economics and Finance Association and also a professor of economics at the University of Colorado, who compared household incomes in 133 metropolitan areas in Right to Work states with those of 158 metropolitan areas in non-Right to Work states.

“Among other results, he found that the average real income for households in Right to Work state metro areas, when all else was equal, was $4,258 more than non-Right to Work state metro areas,” said Mr. Mix.

The problem with U6 is it gives the impression that 15% of people are looking for work and can't find it or were working and lost their job and now can't find work.

In reality, it includes those that "think" there are no jobs - not looking - just assuming they're incapable. It also includes those that are not now looking for various reasons - health, family, school, etc. It also includes those "working part-time for economic reasons." By rule that includes people working 35 hours per week who miss one hour of work for various reasons.

Too many categories and situations that do not represent how it is presented.

Just because someone doesn't think there is work does not mean they shouldn't be accounted for.

The family, health, school reasoning do not make up for half of the unemployed.

And the 35 hours a week for economic reasons shows that the economy is crap and people are underemployed. This out of the rest, however, I could have reservations about it being used.

The U3 should at the very least include those who have stopped looking.

Yeah because unions are the only organization that acts like that. Unions are THE ONLY organization IN ALL OF AMERICA doing what they can to get their choices elected to preserve their way of life or as you call it...favors.

To quote the Romneyites on this board.....

"Are you serious? Are you clueless?"

Labor Unions force workers to pay them dues, amounting to 11 to 12 billion, then use a fourth of it to elect democrats. They are the only organization to do this....and it's legal. At least the way Republicans get funded is all voluntary.

What, that unions are corrupt obsolete organizations whose main function in modern times seems to be to do everything they can to get people elected who will throw favors their way. Is that the kind of thing your talking about? Just want to be clear.

That's like saying all blacks love fried chicken and watermelon, or that all Republicans are racist. Keep 'em coming, though.

Now that's a funny post!

Uh, considering the circumstances, uh yeah. Ummm, I guess it could get worse. Uh, things were pretty bad in 2008. Uh, everyone knew it would get worse before it got better. Uh, if Romney wins I won't root for his failure like sooooooooooo many people do the present administration. Shoot, I may just vote for Romney now. Can't lose. If he doesn't fix it in four years I can blame Obama and if he does fix it in four years I can say I told you so. Hmmmmm, I may be on to something here.

Huh? That makes no sense. Unions get the base of their money from union dues. Correct. Probably all of the way funded by union dues. Yes, they invest money to elect democrats because democrats support labor unions. How is that different from a corporation that uses a 1/4 of its profits to get a republican that will support the corporation? I'm in a union but if I want to vote Romney they can't stop me.

Right to work = Right to work for less .

I gladly paid dues to my Union , and we can opt out of having our dues going for a political agenda .

Incorrect. Read the link I provided.

What Union have you had dealings with , not the one That I belong to .

The pipefitters union is one of the most reputable ones going. They are not all like that. I too was in a union for 11 years. I don't have too many good things to say about them. I do know it cost me about 8 grand over that period, which includes a strike, loss of a 500 dollar signing bonus for that CBA, and 1st year salary increase in that CBA. BTW, we settled for exactly what was last offer from the company before striking. Great times...

I'm not a fan of corporations and how they work in our system. The biggest corporations fund both parties. Unions support one. They get it from workers forced to pay into the system. Corporations still have to make a profit by trading a service, voluntarily, with money. There's a difference between force and consent.

That is awesome. I don't have a problem with unions who don't use force against the workers they are supposed to help. I have a problem with Labor unions, being funded through tax money as well as forcing employers and employees to join them, pay them, then threaten them with their job if they do not comply.

Talk about immoral.

Immoral? What would be immoral is how things would change drastically without a union. That's immoral.

Legal and moral are two different things. Again, nobody is forcing anyone to apply at a company ran by a union. Again, I know of many industrial plants that aren't unionized. Again, my unionized plant is routinely recognized as one of the best places to work in the state of Kentucky. Ranked #8 last year.

The generalized demonization of unions is hilarious and sad at the same time. I wish I could claim the Steelworkers and my local to be on the same page but we aren't. I don't agree with a lot of the things the Steelworkers do or don't do for us. That being said, I would muh rather work at this plant with this local union than work at a plant without. The pluses outweigh the minuses by far. My family agrees.

Same for us. They actually told us it is illegal for them to apply money to campaigns without our consent. Such a big bad immoral union that is.

Did you consent?
