I suppose, but not necessarily. One thing's for sure, those additional workers almost certainly won't be the highly-skilled, highly-experienced ones who lose their GM job. More likely it would be entry-level workers who can be had for much cheaper.

Possible. But they may have to go over to the non-union Honda or Toyota plant where working conditions must be terrible...

:lol: You're laughable. Grown up privileged? Yeah, so privileged I've worked darn near full-time since I was 15 years old.

 

What I did grow up with though is a sense of self-worth and self-responsibility and to never be dependent on another. I grew up believing that if things went bad, you pulled yourself up and fought and clawed your way out of it, not sitting around waiting on someone else (in this case the gov't. bailout) to swoop in and rescue you.

They do pay well, but they're not going to hire some guy moving south from Detroit who's put in 25 years on the line with one of the Big 3. If they do, it will be at a fraction of that guy's previous paycheck.

However, I'm pretty sure you've never experienced what happens in a town when the chief employer shuts things down, putting a quarter of the town on unemployment and putting major stress on the rest of the town (support structure for the plant) as they deal with the ripple effect. It's easy when you've never struggled to sit on a throne in cakeeaterland telling people to buck up while not having to actually live their reality.

I'm not speaking about my own personal struggles. We didn't live in opulence, but I never wanted, either. You should learn to view the world with a wider lens. It might surprise you that there's a world outside the 275 loop beyond those neighborhoods in Covington and Cincy that your parents forbade you from venturing into.
