Price is about to get paid. You are giving away a good pitcher at a reasonable price and 2 young guys with great potential. Hamilton is the guy they have been missing for YEARS. He's going to be cheap for a long time. Adding Price would eat any additional money they have to spend to improve in other areas of need. Pitching isn't a priority at this point IMO.

Being under team control doesn't do much good when's going to be making $10M a year at least.

If the #3 is better than Bailey. As Arroyo gets older he's going to fall into that definite 4 spot. Homer has a chance to solidify himself in the 3 spot so that guy has to be proven and have better recent success.

I think the only way to justify that transaction would be if you could sign the "good" leadoff for a relatively lengthy contract. However, considering the leadoff in waiting is nearly ready to be on the big club, I doubt that happens. I agree with Crash they may have a rent-a-leadoff.

Even as the President of the BGP Homer Bailey Fan Club I will admit that now may be the time to look into trading him. He's at the highest point he's ever been. If you can get immediate help in key areas you have to consider it.

 

I agree. If you can find another GM that thinks he is worth MUCH more than you do, move him. If you don't find someone willing to pay WELL ABOVE what you think he is worth, keep him.

 

In a market like Cincinnati, you do not have the luxury of paying Homer (via arbitration) off of his 2012 season (particularly strong finish) and seeing him revert to 2010 or 2011 form. While I don't think he will revert, it is certainly possible.

Because the Arizona Fall League is where the game's best prospects play. Hamilton is playing with and against the best minor leaguers in the game. It's part of the developmental process.
