Reds Offseason: Decision Time

Featured Replies

A left handed starter is definitely important in a starting rotation and the Reds did not have one all year long. Ties your hands and forces the hands of other coaches. Start Chapman! For the money you are paying him and that is why we wanted him. Madsen was got to be the closer so let him do his job. Keep Broxton, and Cingrani would be a nice addition to the pen.

Catching Hannigan is great defensively. Throwed about 40% of runners out, people did not steal on us, Mesaraco struggles calling the game and tries to him a HR every at bat. I keep Hannigan and Navarro, Mess to AAA

Definitely get rid of Stubbs, use Hamilton or sign someone.

Can not have Arroyo and Leake together in a rotation. Arroyo is old and dont forget that Leake was our best pitcher last year!

You made a little sense until your last sentence. Beyond ridiculous.

Not last year, but in 2010 Leake carried the starting rotation during the 1st half of the season.

Cueto and Arroyo were way better in 2010. I assume you mean 2011 even so Leake wasn't the Reds best pitcher.

The first half of 2010 (the playoff year) Leake was very strong prior to the All Star game (as was Rolen). Leake tailed off significantly and was ultimately shut down in the 2nd half of 2010.

I think that you can never have enough pitching. If they decide to try and start Chapman i think it is a mistake. If they do though, Hoover might be the closer!

John Heyman says Ludwick will decline the option. Wants to negotiate a new deal.

If I'm Walt, I contact Pagan as soon as the Giants season is over and try to work out a deal. Out of all the options available he makes the most sense for the Reds to go after.

I also look into the starting pitcher trade market and see what's available.

The thing is they do need to look for a SP. How much longer can Aroyo go and still be good? Leake, hes an ok 5, but if Aroyo is bad, then hes a 4 and um not good.

If Stubbs isnt dealt (not sure anyone wants him) then Hamilton starts the year in AAA, if he does well, hes up here by late May/Early June if anything to push Stubbs.

Even as the President of the BGP Homer Bailey Fan Club I will admit that now may be the time to look into trading him. He's at the highest point he's ever been. If you can get immediate help in key areas you have to consider it.

Hamilton singled, stole second, scored on an groundout from 2nd in a Fall League game this week. Crazy speed. Can't wait until he's ready for MLB.

No way you trade Homer now. You have been over thrown as the President of the BGP Homer Bailey Fan Club.

Agreed, you have waited this long for him to reach his potential and he is starting to turn the corner. I am penciling him in for 13-16 wins next year. Reds could have 3 or 4, 15 game winners.

So if the Rays come to Walt and offer him Price for Homer, Cigrani, and Hamilton you won't part with Homer?

I'm feelin' ya.

Probably not. They can't afford trades like that at this point.

Price is about to get paid. You are giving away a good pitcher at a reasonable price and 2 young guys with great potential. Hamilton is the guy they have been missing for YEARS. He's going to be cheap for a long time. Adding Price would eat any additional money they have to spend to improve in other areas of need. Pitching isn't a priority at this point IMO.

Reds starters ERA was 5 out of 30 - Pretty good

Reds OBP from the #1 was worst in all of MLB by nearly 30 points.
