Whatever happened to Dylan Portwood of Scott Co? He was a stud on the AAU circuit. Burnout? Issue with all the transfers?

 

I was thinking the same thing about Braxton McFarland who is at Dunbar I think.

Portwood didn't play last year and has been in and out of open gym this fall, so I am not sure if he will be there tomorrow when practice starts. McFarland is a starter at Tates Creek.

Madison Central should start the year at #1, but I'll also say with the talent they have most years they are a BIG underachievers. Correct me if I'm wrong but they have been to the Sweet 16 twice in the last 15 years? I know the 11th region is a monster, but Madison Central needs to get it done. GO INDIANS

One is a foreign exchange student from the Netherlands and the other is a transfer from Florida...Heard they both have been tearing up the gym this summer and fall. Netherlands kid can flat shoot, has posted pics of dunking over a teammate and dunking under the legs on his twitter and the Florida kid is raw, but tries to dunk on anyone anytime...

I have seen pictures of the foreign exchange student.....heard he was a player. Know nothing about the Florida kid. What is the eligibility status on these two? Have they both been ruled eligible?

The last word I had heard was the Florida kid was cleared but still waiting on the foreign exchange kid.

Henry Clay will once again be a non factor in the region as they have been the last several years with a overrated team and coach....Lafayette will underachieve as they usually do....regional contenders will be Madison Central and Scott Co. as usual.....

Just got news that the foreign exchange student was ruled eligible. I am sure they will appeal.

Lafayette's head coaches' father Mike Mendenhall moved over from Lexington Catholic to help his son this year. He brings a lot of experience to the table. Lafayette has the size and talent and if they can handle the ball and find consistent perimeter shooting should be very competitive in the loaded 11th region this season.

SCHS had there midnight madness Monday night and the kid from Florida is very, very raw... But is a HUGE presence in the pain and thwarted many shots. Still needs to work on his strength and looks like he is still growing into his body.

 

Trent Gilbert showed why he should be considered as one of the state's best shooters (IMO) and if Hicks can get his younger kids to come around they are FREAKY ATHLETIC!

 

Biggest problem will be rebounding. Long way to go on the boards.

Accurate on Florida kid (Jordan Tribble). He's eligible. Neils Bunschoten from the Netherlands not eligible, but I am sure the plan is to appeal. Very bouncy 6-9 wing who will obviously help the cause if ruled eligible. This isn't coming from anybody on the inside, but I hear it would be a surprise if he is ruled eligible.

As of Monday he is on the team and Hicks is expecting him to play a HUGE role on this year's team. He said after a year off, he's looking good for the upcoming season.

No doubt Gilbert can fill it up when left alone. Look for Richardson to have a solid senior season scoring the ball. The only younger kid I know about is Tae (sp?) Guyn, younger brother of current UC guard G-lawn Guyn. He is very athletic, but I would be surprised if he was a factor in his freshman season but he will definitely be an impact player before he leaves Scott County. Scott County will depend on some juniors and seniors who have been around the program for years and now must show their worth.

 

Having said that, Thursday's scrimmage with Tates Creek will show much more than Monday did. Plus, projected starter Jalen Haddix is still in football but should be back before the season starts as the football Cards are projected to meet Trinity the Friday before the basketball season begins. Hopefully they pull out the shocker, but doubtful.
