Going to give you a couple names just for examples. Flacco-Delaware, Cutler-Vandy, Rothlesberger-Miami University. He might could win a few more games somewhere else, but doesn't have much effect on making it to the next level or not. Being a star at your state university can lead to many long term career opportunities.

The reason FOR playing again would be to show what you can do before next camp.

Talked to PT last night and he was getting around just fine. Hoping he can get back in there right away and get some snaps/experience.

Been some pretty good QB's go through UK in the last few years. The system is designed for a pro-style drop back passer. Run for your life is a myth, UK has allowed 19 sacks in 8 games this year, while attempting the 2nd most passes in the SEC.

I don't see Joker removing Smith from the starting lineup next year unless he gets hurt.

For PT to play at this point would be pointless and a waste. I think PT could be the future for UK, if he plays that future will be 3 years, if he doesn't it will be 4 years. Short of winning the remaining games on the schedule I don't see how Joker will be back. Therefore I don't see any reason for PT to get experience in this offense for limited snaps in 4 games at the expense of a full year of eligibility. He isn't 100% and at best he splits time. Anyone that thinks playing PT now is good idea is kidding themselves.

Then I'll continue to kid myself because I think it's a great idea to play PT this year if he's healthy.

 

Some fans may think this season is a loss and the remaining games are meaningless, but my guess is that the seniors on the team feel quite differently about the remaining games. Furthermore, if I was an underclassman on this year's team and I saw a coach not willing to do everything within his power to win the remaining games this year, I'd wonder if that coach would do the same thing to me my senior year. Hell, if the coach isn't committed to winning the remaining games this season, why should I try? Throwing in the towel to save a player's eligibility for 2016 would send a terrible message to the team for the remaining games.

 

As I've also stated, I want the best QB to take the field next year. I'm not conceding that such is Smith. Maybe he will be, but he's going to have to prove that he's the best QB. Which means I want Towles to go into Spring ball and Summer camp as experienced and ready as possible. Getting the experience of the next 4 games will help make Towles better heading into that competition. Seems like every UK fan would want us to have the best possible QB leading UK onto the field next year.

 

If it works out that Smith does beat out Towles next year, even with the experience gained by the next four games, why couldn't Towles redshirt next year anyway? Put a redshirt on him and if Smith can play the entire season or most of it next year without injury, Towles ends up being eligible for the 2016 season. Seems to make sense to me.

 

And for the record, I could care less about the 2016 season and who will be the QB that year. I want to win now. If Towles can lead us to victory in any of the remaining games, I want him to be on the field. Heck, think of the positive mo the team would have heading into the offseason if UK won 3 of the next 4, which is doable in my opinion.

 

Not directing this at you, but I think some people don't want Towles to play because they want UK to lose all of the remaining games to make sure Joker gets the boot. I'm no longer on the Joker bandwagon (dropped off it earlier this year) but I don't want the players on this year's team to be penalized to justify Joker sent packing.
