Congrats 'Birds on the win!

Is this where some start asking about the HHS O?

Yep, and wanting to change QBs.

I got their at halftime and it was 33-3. From what I heard and saw the Birds threw it 70% of the time tonight. By the way, those Krispy Kremes should be outlawed.

The Birds 1st team threw it 100% of the time. Not one designed running play in almost 3qtrs of play.

As an aside, I got to the game early and watched some warm up. The kids came in and I saw McCoy and thought "This kids' gonna bring a 6th straight title to Ft. Thomas." Write it down: He will not lose another game the rest of the year apart from Elder. McCoy is a gamer, period. Mason Co's qb was very impressive as well. Good athlete. Highlands just too much.

Congratulations to the Blue Birds. Very good team as always.

I saw this mentioned in the prediction thread and waited until the game was over, but we did agree to play Highlands for 2011/2012 in the fall of 2010. It was a challenge that we wanted to take on and was discussed among our returning players and staff. We were not a last minute replacement for Mason, OH- unless they were close to finalizing their schedule in the fall of 2010 and added us after they backed out. But, we wanted to play Highlands.

Despite the score, I thought we played much better in this game this year than last year. We realize we are very much a work in progress, but we really like our kids and team and we are playing alot of sophomores and juniors. We only have 8 seniors but those guys have come a million miles. We still feel good about our team.

It will be at least 2 years before we play the Birds again. We obviously need to get much better, but our kids like the challenge and really enjoyed the environment tonight.

Coach Mueller is a tremendous football coach and person. What a blessing for those kids to have him leading their program. I learn something every time I talk to coach.

Great to see Leatherneck and Mark Goetz. Coach Goetz is the smart coach- the one that got into administration.

Best of luck to the Blue Birds the rest of the season.

I did want to add I can't walk into that stadium with out thinking of our 2003 team that played in the snow @ Highlands in the state semifinals. We lost 21-14 in the best game our school has played in the past 17 years. I will always appreciate that team and the way they played that season and that night.

Congratulations to the Blue Birds. Very good team as always.

Chief;

You have a great group of kids on your team .

I'm so very sorry I did not meet you tonight, but have watched you coach your team the last two years and have seen how much you are dedicated to the kids and how the kids are working for you. Success will come.

Keep fighting hard.

Mrs. Leatherneck

It was my pleasure to put a couple of BGP faces with names last night.

BF, your team is looking pretty good right now - here's hoping you have continued success the rest of the year. And special congratulations on your pair of crab-free shoes.

LN, I thoroughly enjoyed talking with you as well. I promise to start that thread we were discussing sometime this weekend. If you and Henry happen to be in town, give me a holler; lunch or dinner is on me.

Also nice to run into G'town graduates Jackson Tolle (Mason County) and Ryan Ball (HHS). Hard to imagine two finer young men.

Smoke summed up the game nicely. Royals have some nice players; just not nearly as many as HHS. Birds play fast and are very efficient with their substitution patterns. Easy to see how they wear down many an opponent. Also did a spectacular job protecting QB McCoy.

Here's the game story from the Maysville paper:

Great meeting you and the Mrs. Thanks for taking the effort to find me. I really appreciate getting to meet you. Will try to get into Maysville soon. Good to also see Dr. Bob Ross. Bob, a Highlands classmate of mine, is a physician in Maysville and serves as the Mason County team doctor. Great guy.

Coach, sorry we didn't have more time to talk. Hopefully we'll run across each other soon with more time to catch up. Love what you said in the newspaper article McPapa linked. Just love it.

While supporters of the Royals may be disappointed in the record so far, it's only relevance is whether it has helped prepare the team for the district competition. I saw some talented players on the Mason County team that impressed me. What impressed me even more though, and this is a compliment to the coaches and the parents of the Mason County players and to the players themselves, was the discipline and class displayed by the Mason County players. We've all seen those kids that when they are losing by a big margin, they lose their cool and discipline. I saw absolutely zero of that stuff last night. Standing in one endzone and close to the action, I heard no trash talk, no bickering amongst one another, no finger pointing from the Royals. Just encouragement towards one another and kids playing as hard as they could. Well done.

Good luck to the Royals the rest of the year.

And to the Birds, nothing else needs to be said other than it's CovCath Week.
