A lot of great names in this thread, pure shooters who played on teams that perhaps didn't rely on 3's, as much as others and some didn't have the 3 option, when they played.

 

Houston, Draud, Cox, Ford, Stepp, Farmer, Jones, Chapman and many more.....excellent pure shooters but since Rogers is all-time leader, he would be considered the most prolific in KY history.

Rogers was a great shooter and still is but he played on a team that had absolutely nobody and he had to shoot thirty times a game. I am not taking anything away from him because he can shoot. You put guys like farmer, jones, lofton and ford on that team, they would have averaged 40 points a game also. Also, Jones has to be on the all time list of three pointers made in a career, i just bet that nobody has turned that in to the records. Rogers is a wonderful player and is doing well at Western and I hope he continues to do well.

Just found some interesting statistics from a fellow friend and coach that I know. Jones made 333 threes from his sophomore to senior year of high school and thats not including freshman and eighth grade. If somebody would turn these in, he would the number one guy in the record books. I dont even know if they could turn that in now since it has been forever ago.

Scott Draud hands down.

Draud was a great shooter and deserves to be mentioned right in the mix of things.

Let me submit a couple of guys from pre-three point goal days. Two legendary "longrangers" in the 64th District were George Carroll of Ashland and Mickey Sydenstricker of Russell. From what I hear, there were none better. If you need confirmation, ask Coach Marvin Meredith.

Not old enough to have seen many mentioned but saw Lofton many times. All I can say is maybe Tubby is on this site and maybe this thread as we speak. His best friend is. So maybe Tubby will reflect on his decision to pass on Lofton, and realize that IT HELPS TO RECRUIT PEOPLE WHO CAN PUT IT IN THAT LITTLE ORANGE IRON CIRCLE!!!!!!

Lofton is a great player and shooter, but he wouldnt put up those kind of numbers in Tubby's system because Tubby doesnt care about having shooters apparently. He is much better than Sparks though and might be a little better on defense which isnt saying much anyway. Neither one of those guys can play defense which is why tubby didnt recruit Lofton, but at the same time why did he sign sparks. He is a lot of freedom in ennessee's system and his teammates get him open. He plays with quick athletic guards who can get him the ball when they penetrate. He cant create his own show and neither can sparks, butwhen u can put it inthe basket, u have to set screens.

Sage advice, Spindoc. Let's hope Tubby gets a chance to "tune in" to this thread...

He's probably not the best but Phillip Carter of Pendleton was well over 60% from three a good part of his senior year and was over 50% his Junior year. Its not like he took just 50 threes either...it was his game.

If he had four years with the 3-point line, Scott Draud would have shattered all of those records. He put up 69 on Holmes the year before the line was put in. Out of curiosity, the next year they went back and watched the tape and said that he would have had 17 threes. I also saw him do a shooting clinic like the one mentioned earlier in the thread---he hit 7 threes at nine different spots around the three point line and missed 7....63 for 70....not bad.

Chris Lofton would be second.

Jones was just as good if not better than Lofton during his high school career from beyond the arc. Jones definitely had a quicker release. Draud was a wonderful shooter as well.

Scott Draud was best shooter in my opinion.....of course it helps that your Dad had keys to the gym since he was an anklebiter and he was disciplined to shoot like 500 jump shots a day or something I heard. He was a dead eye buzzard and if the 3pt rule was there for him, he would have averaged over 50pts a game......

 

I enjoyed watching Richie Farmer back a guy from half court to about 22 ft out and bury a turnaround like it was nothing.....

This has nothing to do with the best 3 point shooters, but Chris Snopek (Harrison Co.) went on to play proffesional baseball with the White Sox. While he was in the minors, he played for the Birmingham Barons with the great Michael Jordan. Just thought that was interesting.
