As long as we are talking about pre-3 pointer days, how about Ronnie Lyons from Mason County in the 70's. He could light it up from anywhere.

It was said earlier that Tubby did not take Lofton because he didn't play defense...I do not remember seeing Kentucky play defense against Vandy or Alabama and it would have been great to see Lofton's offensive numbers in both of those games...

 

Back to best 3-point shooter...no one and I mean no one has put on a 3-Point clinic in the Sweet 16 at RUPP like Chris Lofton.

I don't remember Stepp being a prolific long range shooter. He was a great scorer who got good elevation on his jumpshot and hit a great percentage of his shots. As weak as Phelps' competition was, I don't think that Stepp took as many shots that would now be three pointers as people would expect because he could get a 15-18 footer almost at will. If the three point shot had been available, he undoubtedly would have taken more long range shots than he did.

 

Stepp was the best high school scorer that I ever saw play in Kentucky. I don't think he was close to being the best pure shooter. Lofton, Houston, Farmer, and Draud would be near the top of my list.

ERVIN STEPP or PHIL COX hands down !!!!!!!!!!!! Stepp in high school had 3 or 4 players around him all the time with GREAT RANGE & GREAT ELEVATION !!!! Most points was more than 15 or 18 ft >> I did not watch Phil Cox as much but I watch Stepp .......I watch lot of games from 1978 and no one in high school could shoot the ball and have the elevation that Stepp had !!!!! He could shoot from half court ....... And did most of the time . Also think about the best big man in the last 15 yrs. or longer ?????? that could shoot the ball ?????? Todd May ???????????

Chris Lofton is an amazing shooter. I was also there like bird man when he put up 5o+. It was truely amazing and something to see. As for him playing with kentucky. How can you not say he wouldnt be able to score there. You dont think Rondo and Crawford could penetrate and kick him the ball like they do in TN.
