Todd Tackett was another great high school shooter who couldn't throw the ball into the ocean after putting on the blue and white. An even better high school shooter was Paintsville's Keith Adkins, who signed with Notre Dame and then transferred to NC-Wilmington.

The point that you missed is, and the one which I was enforcing is that many great high school shooters do not go on to become great college shooters. In addition, many great shootes such as Adkins and Tackett played on talented, balanced teams and only took a fraction of the shots that others such as Stepp, who was the Phelps offense, took.

...you obviously missed my point, since two consecutive posts were about how high school players fizzled out.

I'm thinking that the KHSAA website might be just a little bit inaccurate.

 

Lofton was 353-764 from 3-point range for his Mason County career, for 46.2 percent. He currently 46-97 at UT for 47.4 percent, after setting the SEC record for 3-pointers by a freshman.

Chris Lofton hands down Kentucky didnt take him b/c he didnt play great defence but look at UK's defence..This year they need him for his offense bc they have no offence....little side tracked but oh well.........GO CATS!!

I believe that UK's defense is holding opponents to the lowest 3 point FG percentage in the SEC. Defense is not the Cats' problem, as Lofton will undoubtedly discover for himself. Lofton posted some good numbers, but I don't think a "hands down" case can be made for him being the best 3 point shooter in Kentucky HS history.

Chris harrison always had the green light, he would cross mid court dribble three steps forward and shoot the rock, before seeing the outcome he would start back peddlind as if he knew the outcome he was confident and never got down on himself for a off night. I'll never forget watching him climb the rim at Mason Feldhaus when he led Tolesboro to thier regional title

That sounds a lot like Phil Cox (Mr. Basketball 1981), who also played at Vandy and still may be the school's all-time leading scorer. A lot of his points were from 20-plus feet away in the days before 3-pointers. He had several 40-plus games.

 

Phil Cox was the first player to come to mind when I saw the title of the thread. Since Phil is around my age, his shooting was prior to the 3-point line.

Scott Draud from HHS averaged over 30 points a game his senior year.....That was without the 3 point line.....Almost all of his shots were from downtown so I can't imagine what his average would of been if he actually had the 3 point line........The best shooter I have ever seen at the high school level by far..........Played for Vandy in college......Was MVP of the NIT one year.......

Bobby Lee Wyatt was the same way. Best pure shooter that I ever saw .Pendleton Co. 1968-1970

Chris Harrison was tough for Tollesboro and everyone knew he was going to shoot the 3 and he still made them.
