September 8, 201214 yr This is a two part question. How do you make one(ingredients, etc.) and what retaurants can you get one at? thanks
September 8, 201214 yr First one I ever had was at a cafe in Micanopy, Florida. Here's an easy recipe. Make sure you get GOOD roast pork. You don't really need a "Cuban sandwich press"; what we do at papa's house is use two iron skillets - one to put the sandwich in and another to flatten it. Best Cuban Sandwich recipe | Traditional Cubano Ingredients Where do you get roast pork sliced? Can you flatten with a George Foreman to flatten? What's the best cheese and mustard(yellow, etc.) to use? Does any place in Northern Ky. sell them? Quizano's had them for awhile.
September 8, 201214 yr I know I have had one in N. KY./Cincinnati, but I can't remember where. Perhaps at Virgil's in Bellevue? Surprised I can't remember where I had it because it was delicious. EDIT: Yes, it was at Virgil's that I had the Cuban. I checked their menu online and there it was. If you haven't been to Virgil's, go there. Excellent!! Swiss cheese, yellow or spicy mustard according to your preference. I honestly don't know if a George Foreman has enough weight to properly flatten - I guess if you leaned on it. Sorry, can't answer where to get one around here. And the Micanopy Cafe is a pretty long drive. We've been there three times and have gotten Cubans each time.

They are only open for lunch Monday-Friday though...

September 8, 201214 yr Wrap a brick in aluminum foil. Just about the right size. Use two bricks if you need to.
September 8, 201214 yr I've had two of these wonderful sandwiches. Once at Longnecks in Wilder and the other at Keystone Bar and Grill in Covington. The pickle really makes this one.

September 9, 201214 yr Went to the Vio Colori (sp?) festival here in Etown on Saturday and they had a Cuban dinner. Definitely made a stop after this thread.
September 10, 201214 yr The secret to making it authentic is the pork roast. My Cuban immigrant friends marinate their pork in sour oranges, lemons, and limes along with tons of garlic, salt, and black pepper. It gives it a unique flavor. Also, lather on the butter before pressing the sandwich. The best I've had, they use a paint brush to lay it on. The best Cuban is from Andy's Deli in Oldmar, Florida.

September 10, 201214 yr This is the best illustration of how to make a Cuban Sandwich that I have seen. Do It Yourself Cubanos « Off The Broiler For a good one in lexington, go to Old San Juan Cuban Cuisine in Zandale.
