Favorite Places to Play

When I was in school I liked

1.Russellville- looks like a castle, they put the visitors in front of the home crowd and it was always raining and foggy everytime I played there and got pelted w/ skittles my soph year.

2. Trigg co.- fans always yelling at you and mouthing, got threatened several times coming off the field, always made things fun :D

3. Hancock Co.- The one time I played there it was a blast, very competitive game till the 4th quarter, then Atwell pulled away, but it had a big game feel, even though we lost it was probably my favorite game of my entire life

Gose-Chandler Athletic Field, Whitesburg. I miss them days, more than anyone can imagine.

Oh, yeah, I loved playing at Halcomb Field!

Cov Cath.

Cov Cath is a great place to play....but what would make it better is playing under the lights on friday instead of on Saturday. Great place but Friday nights would make it the best!

It doesnt get much better that PUTNAM STADIUM!

My favorite places to play were:

#1 Eagle Field- Home field so of course it was my favorite.

#2 Putnam Stadium- Great atmosphere for a high school football player and loved the field.

#3 Memorial Field- Good field and played 2 Apple Bowls there.

#4 North Laurel- Field was in great shape and stadium was nice.

It's hard to compete with places like Ashland and Corbin, but Rockcastle is pretty well known and well feared by many teams. They have a great speaker system for pre-game and a cannon and fireworks for touchdowns and field goals. Besides all the entertainment it seems to be a very hard place to play for other teams. Rockcastle also holds the longest winning streak for home games at i think 22 but not for sure.

Johnson Central is my personal favorite; a big stadium with great atmosphere; plus the best ball-game hamburgers and hot dogs (not the concessions under the seats, but the tent at the visitor's corner of the stands) ever.

Putnam isn't bad, but when we played Ashland there it was raining and the turnout was pretty poor. Rockcastle's place was nice.

Male and Ballard. The more hostile the crowd the better.

Until you've done it, you can never fully appreciate the deafening silence of a once deafening crowd.

I always like playing at Danville b/c of the Tradition there. Bell Co was fun if you wanted to play a football game then fight the refs after the game.

Boyle Co great field and awesome fans it made for a great atmosphere.

Enjoyed playing at South Laurel but only because there was great Scenery to look at and I am not talking about the Hills or country side!! :thumb:

Of course no place like home SW!

I used to like playing att the old Fleming-Neon Field. None of that sissy artificial stuff it was 100% pure rocks and glass.

I dont know how it is now, but I remember playing Leslie County one year. They had a surface that was UNREAL!

somerset briar patch

I am partial to Manual Stadium. It is the largest High School stadium in the Commonwealth, and one of the oldest. Find parking on a street in Germantown, stop in at Check's, Flabby's or one of the many other eateries/neighborhood bars, and then take in a game on a chilly Friday night. I saw my first high school game there in October, 1959, and it is pretty much the same after all these years. The ghosts of so many great players over the many decades still float across the turf. Hornung, Lyons, Brohm (Oscar), Bush...In 1964 I saw my first St. X-Trinity game at Manual. In mid-October 1967 on a cold, sunny Saturday afternoon Flaget met undefeated, unscored on Owensboro at Manual Stadium. Unlike many high school stadiums that feature only one school, Manual Stadium has been the venue for classic matchups between schools other than Manual. I am told that during the 1930's U of K played there at least once.
