August 10, 201214 yr I am a City fan too, there is also one in West Chester. Tell us about Pit to Plate CWB? Pit-to-Plate is up on Hamilton Avenue about a mile or so north of the Ronald Reagan Highway in Mt. Healthy. The actual restaurant is kind of ticky-tacky...the appearance isn't overwhelming. But when you taste the food you're suddenly VERY impressed. It's about a 15 minute drive from my office, so I go there for lunch every 6 weeks or so - I have a feeling I'll end up there today. I go back and forth between the pulled pork (which is closer to shredded pork because of how tender it is and how easily it falls apart) and the brisket when I go there, although I would generally have to go with brisket it I only had one shot at eating there. Both meats are tender and juicy, and however they smoke it, they end up with the absolute perfect amount of smoke flavor - if you ask me, at least. Meats are dry rubbed before cooking, and then they have 6 sauce options available after you get your meat, and all of them are very good. As I understand it, they claim to be "Texas style barbecue", although they have food and sauces that exhibit at least KC style and Carolina style as well. Of course they serve pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. I've only had ribs once, since I'm always there at lunch time. They also have barbecued turkey, and barbecue wings. I've never had either, but I've been told by everyone I know who has that they're both very good. I will say, they let the pork soak in juice after it's cooked, so ask for it with the bun on the side, and you can drain a little of the juice away so it doesn't soak through your bun so fast. If you like collard greens, try those too.
August 10, 201214 yr What's wrong with the location? Near a college campus, on a main drag, near other restaurants, I think it is a great location.

August 10, 201214 yr On paper, it makes sense. For some reason or other, though, it's the black of of Highland Heights. I thought Chipotle, jimmy johns, etc would have been a nightmare. Only issue they have had is not enough parking. There is a side street that takes you to Applebees. If it sits near the road it will be fine. I know there is a small wall in front that is not good for the visual from the road. Hardees accross the street went out of business because it sucked.

August 10, 201214 yr Author It's good stuff, but I question the decision to use that location. I'm not sure exactly where they plan on putting it. My source told me that it was going in where the old Thriftway used to be near NKU. The Thriftway has been torn down for quite a few years now - since BOK went in, and that area is a big vacant lot, so it has to be in that vicinity.

I would think that it will be in that island area near the newer 5th3rd. The old Thriftway area is owned by NKU and they have hinted for several years that they have big plans for the area so I'd be suprised if they sold it.
August 10, 201214 yr When I said it was a bad location, I meant if they put it exactly where the old Thriftway was. Seems ridiculous for NKU to buy that land, clear it and then let a restaurant build on the site. Highland Heights, in general, is a good place as long as it's not too close to the Chipotle, etc. strip. That area is very congested already. Not enough parking and hard to get out; at least during lunch hours.
August 11, 201214 yr Ehhh ... I'll take mine against any of them. You would too.Hope to have the pleasure someday! :thumb:

I've heard for years that a hotel would be built there. Not sure if that's still in the blueprints or not.
August 13, 201214 yr City BBQ has some really good food. When I was working the NKU home basketball games, City BBQ catered the press room from time to time and those were the ones I looked forward to. The brisket is amazing as well as the sausage links if I remember correctly. I'm not a huge fan of ribs, but City BBQ had some pretty good ones. As for sides, their corn pudding is AMAZING. They also make some really good banana pudding as well.
