First day of high school was 10th grade for me - it was different in Maryland back in the day. I don't remember it, nor my parents' reaction to it.

I vividly remember daughter's first day of 12th grade. We took her picture on the front doorstep as she left for school (we also have one of her on the same doorstep on her first day of first grade). Five minutes later she called me to say that she had been rear-ended on the AA highway as she was driving to school.

Mine aren't close to HS yet (4th and 2nd grade) but they still grow up quick. We take a pic on the front steps every year with them holding up the fingers to match their grade. It's amazing to see how much they change over the course of the year.

We have 2 girls with the oldest starting kindergarten on the 16th. The wife shed some tears just getting her uniform. Im sure i might let a tear or two slip when we drop off for her first day!

2C I was in a different situtation than you. Both when I went and when my son when. My dad was my principal and mom a teacher where I went to school...so not the adjustment that most parents face. Also with my son, he would ride with me to school. Now the adjustment was when he would drive us to school.......

Enjoy your time now , because these next 4 years will fly by.

Just you all wait until you see your child walking down the aisle to get married and see them leave for a life on their own with their spouse. Don't even think going off to college will get you prepared for this, as you know they will be back after school is over but getting married:idunno: while they will visit and they will call, it will never be the same in your home and yes I cried like a baby when I saw that moving truck leave for Arizona!

Now understand, I was very, very happy for them, but........:cry::cry:

I was stuffed in a trash can my first day of high school.

And?

And?

Well I think we've all seen the result.

TOG reiterates that as parents we always will have something both exciting and sad.

Go to K

Go to first grade

Go to jr high

Go to high school

Go to college

Move away for a job

Get married

Crap never ends.

Oh wow, next year is really going to suck then. I dread August 25th when we drop the oldest off at Campbellsville. Mom is going to be a wreck until he comes home a week later for Labor Day.

Our youngest is moving in to Campbellsville this Friday and our daughter will be a sophomore this year there.

Highschool already started? Wow, that seems much earlier than usual.

Not just EKY, per Kevin Brown at KDE today 45% of KY Schools are in session as of today.

I'll never forget my 1st day at NewCath. I'm walking down the hall when coming towards me are these two big giants. As I pass between them and look up it was like looking up at two Redwoods in the forest. I had just passed Mike and Joe Kiernan, who would go on to play football at Notre Dame and Kentucky. Lord have mercy those guys where big back then!!!!
