Pike to Louisville?

Featured Replies

While they are doing some form of evaluation they are watching tape to make final decisions.

UTenn, Bama, Ohio State all told Drew Barker they will watch tape from his first 4 or 5 games to determine if they will offer.

Pike has been brutal on tape since he started playing varsity QB outside of those one or two throws a night that he made while on the move. His pocket passes were never on point with any consistency, and it never had much to do with throwing to targets that were outmatched one on one.

Drew Barker is a good decision maker for a kid with similar physical talents. Should he dumb his reads down to hope that college coaching will catch him up?

This might be the most senseless topic in BGP history. Zeke Pike just didn't get the chance to be a good decision maker? Sad given how bad this "kid" screwed up over and over again on and off the field...

I'm saying he never would have played a down at QB for Auburn regardless of the situation. Said that long ago after seeing him poorly attempt to play the position despite big time physical ability. Anything else you see in there is trying to spin my words out of context... :thumb:

Not spinning anything. I am of the belief that he would still be a QB at Auburn had he not encountered legal problems. You seem to think he was destined to fail as a QB at Auburn regardless of legal issues.

So now you're cool with a coach just watching tape and not showing up at a game?

No question he was going to get his chance to prove himself. If he didn't then he would have been moved.

I think he was a very average QB at the high school level, and would have been a lot worse at the high major level. Just so I am clear once again...

No question? He was 4th on a solid at best QB depth chart after spring practice. What exactly do you consider "proving himself"???

I've never read anything about him being anything other than 3rd but , regardless, you think the coaches were only giving him one spring practice in order to determine if he was going to be a qb down the road? Come on. They had their starter (Fraser). They had their experienced backup (forget his name - kid from small town in AL) and they had two true frosh counting Zeke. I've never read anything that had Wallace ahead of Pike.

Pike would be a good scout team QB and could act like he is Towles? :D

Sad thing is that if he comes out of spring as one or even two, he is likely still at Auburn.

My guess is that given what he saw on the field, made it easier on coach to come to the decision that he did.

By the way, a certain recruiting coordinator from a school very near to Pike's hometown was not impressed at all. Not surprised that even though the recruiter has moved on to the big ten, that school was still not interested.

Asking if you had seen film on him, was my point and why, you ask?

Watching film on him as I am sure GT has and or as some of the locals coaches that coldhand spoke about, that have for years and those films tell a lot about Pike and a lot of it IMHO isn't good.

!

When I've asked GT in the past about football recruits he told me that due to his basketball gig he doesn't have much time to watch football recruits and that he defers to the football guys.

BTW are you saying that Zeke former teammates at Dixie were bad, as well as his former Dixie coaches? I hope not!

Never said "bad." There was not a lot of strong talent.

Coaches: How many high school teams have true QB coaches? Some - not all. I do not believe Dixie had a true QB coach. I think Dave Brossart was the OC (could be wrong). Dave ran a nice offense at CCH but Dave was , I think, an o-lineman in college.

EVERY high school QB needs a strong QB coach. Conner has one.

Pike doesn't fit that conversation. I called at least 8 of his games as the starter at Dixie and went through a ton of the game tape we had on him. It was never pretty even adding in the one or two plays a game he made with him arm. I'd gladly take 3 Dixie QBs over the last decade. O'Toole and Preston were far better running that "simple" offense. I'd take Blake Bir as a pocket QB over Pike at any level...

I'm not sure that I understand why UL would take a chance on Pike. He is obviously a potential problem, plus he is going to play a position that he has no experience at. I'm assuming he is getting a scholarship, but I believe that he would merit no better than an opportunity to walk on.

I agree. He should have to prove that he has changed his ways before he earns a scholarship. Plus, he will be playing a position that he was not initially recruited to play.

There was one Big Ten team that was very interested in him as a QB according to this post from Qryche:

Back to Pike....Purdue is no longer an option according to my source. They had commitments to 2 other QB's and it was too big a risk. They loved his talent but didnt want to lose the 2 other QB's as well as take the gamble. Apparently though U of L may now be in the mix according to my U of L contact.
