August 5, 201214 yr For anyone to say that a qb is a good decision maker or not is impossible to determine, unless you know what the decisions are supposed to be. The next coach that says the plan is to throw into triple coverage on a regular basis will be the first. Watching Pike throw into bad situations over and over at Dixie wasn't hard to see. Was pretty basic on most Friday nights actually...
August 5, 201214 yr It is rare for a D1 school to offer a qb they have not seen throw in person. How many times was anyone from Auburn at Dixie to watch him play? Serious question...
August 5, 201214 yr How many times was anyone from Auburn at Dixie to watch him play? Serious question... I mean they saw him throw routes to receivers in person not necessarily at Dixie games. Most likely saw him in person on Auburn's campus during a camp.

My motto is we can beat triple coverage but never quadruple! Let it rip!
August 5, 201214 yr I mean they saw him throw routes to receivers in person not necessarily at Dixie games. Most likely saw him in person on Auburn's campus during a camp. And that is my direct point. They never saw him play an actual game in person. He is a GREAT looking QB in 7 on 7. 11 on 11 he was bad 7 out of 10 times as a pocket passer. Pike simply isn't a kid that projects at QB in game situations, and he never has been. Shuffle the deck however you want, it held true to form every time, including spring practice at Auburn. That's the bottom line, and the ship has now sailed...

There was always some discussions on this board in regards to the coaching at that school...

August 5, 201214 yr Not unusual when you are recruiting a 3 star LB or TE. QB is a different deal... When they come to see you in person, it is not for evaluation. The visit is for recruiting. Of course, not always but in general.
August 5, 201214 yr Hold on GT. Are you saying he would not be at Auburn regardless of the legal issues? I'm saying he never would have played a down at QB for Auburn regardless of the situation. Said that long ago after seeing him poorly attempt to play the position despite big time physical ability. Anything else you see in there is trying to spin my words out of context... :thumb:

Um, if they can't show up and actually watch the game they aren't going to be in college football coaching very long. You can't be serious with this line of silliness...

August 5, 201214 yr That is the game plan vs any qb that can run and make things happen on the run. On the flip side, if the qb is a true pocket passer the game plan is to get him out of the pockets. It is not like it is rocket science on the approach vs Pike or any other qb. Certainly not rocket science and those coaches were certainly not the only ones to employ said strategy. The point is that a team with one D 1 prospect, and he so happens to be the QB, and the best gameplan is to keep the ball in the hands of said D1 QB. Whole bunch of guys on the field who will never play college ball at any level and a couple who will play D3 or NAIA and the plan is to make the Five star D1 guy beat you with the ball in his hands. Goes to the point that the young man is not and never will be effective at that position. You take that same team and put him at TE and those same coaches are gameplanning how to keep the ball out of his hands.

While they are doing some form of evaluation they are watching tape to make final decisions. UTenn, Bama, Ohio State all told Drew Barker they will watch tape from his first 4 or 5 games to determine if they will offer.
