Mesoraco suspended and fined

Featured Replies

Did the umpire get any discipline for initiating the contact and basically sucking at his job? FWIW, nobody was bumped, the player basically brushed the ump with his hand. Which caused a huge overreaction on Fairchild's part.

Mesoraco no doubt bumped the umpire. Anyone who watched the game saw it, it was discussed after the game and in the paper the next day.

As to the comments above about umpire Fairchild, consider these items from that game he umpired behind the plate. It was a 9 inning game and it lasted nearly 4 hours. There were 373 pitches thrown by the two teams and 17 walks issued. Besides Mesoraco clearly being frustrated by the umpire, there were several other incidents in the game that showed players had no clue how he was calling balls and strikes. Edinson Volquez was visibly upset by several calls and had no problem showing his disgust. After one pitch, he took a stroll to the back of the mound and just looked into center field shaking his head as if to say I have no idea why that wasn't a strike. Two veteran players, Rolen and Phillips, both headed down to first on what they thought was ball 4 only to be called back by the umpire. There were other instances of similar disgust and confusion during the game. It was the worst called game I can ever remember seeing.

Well judging from your post there are a lot of things you don't know.

Hahaha. Glad someone said it.

You must has a much looser definition for bump than I do. I have watched that video multiply times and the only contact I see is Mesoraco with his hand up and Fairchild basically stepping into it. Mesoraco wasn't even looking his direction.

Fairchild jump out from behind the catcher, took his mask off, and tried to look all hard. When he got brushed by Mesoraco's hand he acted like a grade school girl.

Mesoraco has been placed on the 7 day concussion DL. Navarro has been recalled.

I didn't think they had another catcher on the 40 man.

Not sure, if not, they would have to release Costanzo or somebody.

Can't seem to find a video anywhere, but he framed a pitch for an awkwardly long time, then the umpire said something that Meso didn't like, and he confronted the umpire. Dusty had to intervene.

Look in the Reds Padres thread. I posted a link to the video. IMO it was his second outburst that got him suspended.

Watch the whole incident. It sounds to me like you only saw the first part. After Dusty comes out and tries to hold him back, Mesoraco got really heated, pushed past Dusty and bumped the umpire.

Clyde, I could not find your video link. If you could repost it here for Michael and others, that would be great.

Mesoraco's a young hot-head. Chad Fairchild is an umpire with a God-complex and a ridiculous strike-zone.. I favor the suspension if only to teach Mesoraco a lesson and hopefully get him to check himself. Fairchild...well...let's just say I hope he retires young.

Mesoraco was injured in a collision with Cameron Maybin near home plate in the second inning of Monday night’s game. A short while later he argues a ball/strike call, pokes the ump, etc. etc.

On Tuesday he leaves the game with what was thought to be heat related dizziness.

On Wednesday he is diagnosed with having suffered a concussion in the Maybin collision Monday night and is placed on the DL.

Poor guy was suffering from brain trauma when the outburst occurred with the ump Monday night. Clearly a temporary insanity situation. Where is Johnny Cochran and Barry Sheck when you need them?

If the Mitt does not fit, you must acquit!
