Yes, Fairveiw did beat Ashland when Jeff Hall played for the Eagles.

How about when Donnie Rigsby played. I played against both Ashland and Fairview during that period and both had pretty good teams? How about in the '75 season. Fairview came out of the 16th that year?

I believe this was Fairview's 1st ever win in 30 tries at James A Anderson. I'm sure Fairview has beaten the Tomcats before but victories for the Eagles are few are far between in this series. Congratulations to Coach Cooksey and the boys. This was a been win for Westwood!! :thumb:

I believe it's probably the 3rd or 4th time that Fairview has beaten Ashland. It's the first time the Eagles have ever won at Ashland. I know that Fairview beat Ashland Hall's senior year. In 1975 the Eagles did win the region, but Steve Skaggs and Greenup Co. had already beaten the Tomcats out that year.

I agree, a loss to Fairview is not as bad as it used to be in the past. Fairview has a good team and will be tough through tournament play, as will Ashland. Just hope neither will beat my BC lions though :thumb:

Fairview beat Ashland in the 73-74 season.An interesting sidenote.The father of Alex Barker was the starting pg on that team.It is the first time that Fairview has beaten Ashland at Ashland.

Ashland did a good job shutting down the player I thought would be the main offensive threat for Fairview, by holding Cody Black to single digits. Problem is, they couldn’t stop Alex Barker and Jeremy Bayless who combined for over 30 points between them.

 

Barker was the sparkplug for the Eagles. He committed few turnovers in relation to the many positives he made happen. The Cats just couldn’t nail him down. It amazes me how a kid his size is able to impact a game.

 

Black and Bayless were beasts on the boards, giving Ashland very few second chances. I don’t recall any key stats for Stewart and Hutchinson, but they had their moments, especially defensively.

 

The Cats are a good team, with the coaching and talent to exceed "realistic" expectations. Thomas showed flashes of brilliance, as did McDavid. While Drew is capable of competing at all five positions, I see him most naturally in the three spot. It’s unfortunate for him that Ashland does not have a truly dominant post player. As a result, Fairview was able to do a good job corralling him in the post. It would be to his advantage to have a little more room to maneuver. Matt did a good job creating offensively tonight… perhaps he needs to do this more. Wilcox, Cannoy, Reliford, Williams and the other Cats played hard and made good contributions on the floor.

 

The Cats did go cold, but much of the credit for that has to be attributed to Fairview turning up the "D". Very few Ashland shots went unchallenged after the first quarter.

 

Bottom line is that Fairview is a hardnosed, gritty team that refuses to roll over for anybody. The Eagles simply wanted this one more.

Folks, this was no upset. Right now Fairview was just the better team. Ashland jumped out to a 22-8 lead and, I think, must have let up a bit. Fairview teams of the past would have thrown in the towel, but not this one. Fairview deserved this win. The Fairview guards controlled the game, they beat Ashland off the dribble many times for easy layups. Another key was Fairview has the bigger, stonger inside players and they did a nice job on McDavid. Give Coach Cooksey and his staff credit they were ready for this game. That being said, if Ashland shoots well this is a different game,Flynn will make corrections and have the Tomcats ready down the stretch.
