I work for a family owned company who's patriarch was one of Forbes richest Americans and is global.
July 4, 201214 yr I will say this - I put more faith in privately held companies - large or small than publicly held companies. So many of the scandals involving business involve stock manipulation, stock options, etc. Private held companies focus on their business, not Wall Street Analyst and quarter to quarter reporting.

July 4, 201214 yr That's true. Walmart has destroyed more small businesses than the government. Walmart sucks. *sighs.....hits power button on phone. Takes keys out the ignition and puts phone and keys in pocket. Grabs front pocket wallet and puts in the other pocket. Steps out of car. Hits keyless remote to lock the car and proceeds into Walmart for soap, deodorant, Smartfood White Cheddar popcorn, peanuts and Raspberry Simply Lemonade. Don't believe the hype, Walmart is not the small business killer they are blamed to be. I can discuss this subject ad nauseum but I don't feel like typing that much. If anybody has a specific question about their practices I will be happy to answer from my point of view.

Regardless of what is done to help anyone whether it is big business, small business, middle class, the poor or the rich somebody is going to complain. There is so much complaining that I don't know who or what is right anymore. Less government is always better. At one time all businesses in America were mom and pop, locally owned stores. The real growth of this nation began as big companies and franchising took hold. There were complaints then and will continue. Less government will help the small businesses of America to compete. Notice I said less government, not no government.

A generalized legal definition of a small business, certified as SBE (small business enterprise), is a business whose owner(s)' net worth does not exceed $750,000. I might not go by that 100%, but I would personally say and non-franchise, non-corporate, locally owned/operated business.
