July 13, 201214 yr ...and then the two small independently owned hot dog stands are eventually forced to compete with each other in a pricing war until Walmart opens a hot dog stand 10 miles away, with cheap hot dogs made from 100% pink slime sold for pennies on the dollar. The people are so sick of paying more for hot dogs at the independently owned stores (which have increased their prices because of over taxation) that they go eat the complete crap they are being sold at Walmart's hot dog stand - and America gets fatter. Eventually, the independently owned hot dog stands close due to inability to compete with Walmart, and there go any decently paying wages to owners and managers that had once been produced by those two hot dog stands, while Walmart pays its employees minimum wage. And that one is typically one of the "express" lanes, manned by the oldest cashier in ten counties. The one wearing carpal tunnel braces on both wrists. The one that wants to inspect every item you're buying to see if you got a bargain, then tell you about her arthritis and her grandchildren.
July 13, 201214 yr Seriously...for some, getting a job as a cashier at wal-mart is a goal. There's nothing to diss about it. It's an honest job, and no less a worthy job than any other. I don't want to do it, but I'm glad there are people who do. For some, that's all they want, why is that a thing to laugh about or be incredulous about?

July 16, 201214 yr Funny that you say that! I had that EXACT conversation last night. They have so many checkout lanes but never have more than 5 open at any given time. About a 6 months ago I was in the Walmart in Florence with a cart full of goods and they had about 6 or 7 lanes open and all were 5 or 6 customers deep. A manager was standing there with her clipboard watching over everthing. After waiting what seemed an eternity I asked her if they were going to open up anymore registers, she says to me "most of the cashiers are on break". I said, "well so am I and my break is over". Left the cart full of food right there with her and started to walk out the door. She says, "where are you going?" I said, "you're not making this PAYING customer wait this long to hand over his money, see ya", and I walked out.
