June 29, 201214 yr It's The Tea Party Libertarians that have co-opted the Republican Party that are against it and have cowered reasonable Republicans . Please, there is a difference between the Tea Party and Libertarians. Tea Partiers are far more inclined to have government intrusion on your personal choices. I was actually hoping that the Tea Party movement would become more of a Libertarian movement, but it is too intertwined with the religious right and the big name right wingers.
June 29, 201214 yr They share much of the platform for economic liberalization, but the Tea Party tends to carry with it the emphasis on social conservatism that Libertarians reject. That's my understanding anyway. Yes, that is more or less accurate.

June 29, 201214 yr Much like C_W_B shouldn't presume how you will vote, you shouldn't presume that my opposition to ObamaCare is based on being self centered and selfish. Fair enough? There are legitimate philosophical differences here. I'm not a "it takes a village" kind of person. I don't believe that the govt should be able to force me, by the taking of my property, to help my fellow man. If I decide to do it, it should be via my own free will. I don't believe that govt entitlements over the long run are good for the down trodden, but believe they actually hurt the down troddenover the long run. I believe that the more the govt takes care of people, the less important the importance of personal responsibility and the institutions of family and church become. I believe that there is growing segment of Americans that have either become dependent on govt entitlements or are simply willing to get by on govt entitlements and have little desire to work. That is why I am opposed to ObamaCare and other govt entitlement programs. I don't think that is being selfish or self-centered, but if you do, so be it. I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Missouri's McCaskill is 'polling at 40% against a yet to be determined Republican candidate.' (paraphrase from video below). It is also noted she was 'the first' moderate to get on board with the bill. Maybe we will see Ben Chandler running ads making sure his new district knows he did not vote for this... I was just going by LN's post, which said in part,"...I am opposed to ObamaCare and other govt entitlement programs." Perhaps he meant to say "ObamaCare and some other govt entitlement programs such as...". I am more than happy to give him the benefit of the doubt; but the tenor of the post was "the government shouldn't use my property (I read taxes) to help my fellow man". That's where many of us part company, I suppose. I very much think that the government should do just that, among other things. Just pointing out that entitlement programs are vital; and if we relied solely on the benificence of the chosen few, the schism between haves and have nots would be unimaginable. I very much respect LNs opinions. Don't always agree with them by any stretch, but I am most certainly respectful of them.
