Was an awesome dunk back then because no one had seen it. Now its a little played out, but his dunk contest in 2000 was the best ever, period.

Vince murdered the dunk contest. It's been garbage ever since.

I really wish LeBron would man up and do the dunk contest. I am not voting for him for this thread for that reason. I remember watching him do the McDonald's game dunk contest and I have never seen anyone jump that high in my life. To me he is more of a power dunker with guys like Shaq.

Some others not getting a lot of consideration in this thread...

Jason Richardson

David Thompson

Clyde Drexler

Phoenix Sun Gorilla

Kobe Bryant

Shawn Kemp

I tend to live in the past too much but there were some great dunkers back in the day. Dr. J has been mentioned on a few list in this thread. He was unreal. George Gerwin (not sure of the spelling) was terrific, and Dominique Wilkins could throw it down with the best of them. And Darrell Griffith was one of the better dunkers as well.

Russell Westbrook deserves PG love also. He's had some misses in the playoffs this year that would have been some of the stupidest dunks I have ever see.

Powerful like Shaq and graceful like Mike.

The Phoenix Sun Gorilla.

Close. George Gervin but he was known more for his finger roll than any dunking.

I won't argue anyone but Dominique Wilkins. Not only was he spectacular in transition or off the bounce, he was the most violent dunker, and was the only guy that I can recall that could still finish when being grabbed. I'm not talking little block attempts, talking grabbed with both arms by defenders and nique still flushed. Lebron is a fantastic dunker, but I'd take nique all day, every day when it comes to finishing with a flush. Lebron is a far more complete player, and I also understand the age group here. There's never been another like DW. I doubt there ever will be.

He took dunk contest dunks and did them in games. "The human highlight film"

I can't front on Dominique. I always thought he beat MJ in the Chicago dunk contest.

I don't think there's any question he beat MJ.

I love this list. I agree with all these. Dominique, Carter, and MJ would be added to my list. Baron Davis could throw it down for a few years.

Dominique is the best dunker. The guy is 6'8" tall and is a top 20-25 all-time scorer in NBA history, and yet you have never seen a video of him hitting a mid-range jumper. He is the only all-time great whose whole career is define by his dunks.

Shame on every last one of you for neglecting to mention Cedric Ceballos & Brent Barry. SMH

He shot jumpers. Then he dunked his misses.
