A quote for Anti-Gun advocates

Featured Replies

Maybe not the majority, but for sure a portion of the population who have bought guns have done so in part for that purpose. There are a lot of anti-government types out there.

Agreed but it's a miniscule percentage.

I submit that the run on guns and ammo after the 2008 election had a lot to do with protection from the government. That essentially manifested itself in obtaining ownership and stocking up ammo before the option was taken away, as it was perceived it would be.

"People that is not the point the second amendment...The second amendment is not about duck hunting...and I know I am not going make many friends say this...but its about our rights, all of our rights to be able to protect ourselves from all you guys up there." (pointing to members of Congressional committee) - Dr. Suzzana Gratia.

I am saying that people are not buying guns saying " I need to make sure I protect myself against the government."
Not sure I'd completely agree. I'd be willing to bet there are more people than you might think that buy for just this reason.

Compared to those that buy overall, correct.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree that it is probably a higher percentage than most people would think. My mother is from a large extended family in southwest Texas. They all own multiple guns, that they have with them pretty much always. Even most of the women have a shotgun with them in the truck at all times. And while they may have other reasons for having their guns, I can tell you that distrust of the government is at least a factor in most of their decisions to obtain guns.

Can't say as I blame them.

Good point sir.

Personally, I am more afraid of people who own guns because they are afraid of the government than I am afraid the government will start military action against me. :D

Pretty powerful stuff I hadn't seen that before, thanks for sharing BC.

Agreed, I'm not hanging up old targets or pictures of all my guns out side of my house to make a criminal think twice about breaking into my home. I have my guns inside readily available so that they'll regret breaking in to my home if they choose to.

This.

I'm not sure where LOL comes in. And since you're asking, yes, it was a good point.:D

It was a typical, Clyde, response. That's where the LOL comes in.

Gun control advocates orate on the premise that guns are responsible for crimes committed. The thesis of this quote refutes that basis. Taking away guns will not make an iota of difference when correlated with willful, violent crimes.

But you want to drift off topic an argue why people buy guns, as oppossed to the rhetoric for taking away guns.

1. Orate means to speak pompously. It isn't simply an alternative for "talk." I'd challenge you to show where I was pompous.

2. One of the key points of the quoted writer/speaker was that gun rights were granted NOT to fight crime but to defend oneself against the government. I "orated" that it no longer is true when it comes to THE reason(s) people buy guys today. Can you tell me how that "drifts off topic?" It's one the KEY arguments made by the writer/speaker. If it doesn't fit your narrative then someone should lay down the rules for what part of the post we're allowed to comment upon.

I wasn't specifically refering to you, genius.

Gun control advocates orate on the premise that guns are responsible for crimes committed.

Bolded. Doesn't matter if people buy guns to prevent government oppression, or not. The fact is, the right was granted to bear arms, and the KEY arguement reinforces that right. I feel like the topic regarded gun control versus right to bear arms? Not why people buy weapons...
