June 6, 201214 yr "Gun-control laws do not control crime because crimes are not committed by guns; they are committed by criminals. Criminals will always have guns because they do not obey laws, including anti-gun laws. Those without guns are easy prey for criminals with guns. Gun control encourages crime. "The right to bear arms was included in the Bill of Rights, not to deter crime, but to deter oppressive government. Just governments honor and protect the right to bear arms. Oppressive governments fear and prohibit the right to bear arms. "Guns are dangerous. The only thing more dangerous is not having them." -- G. Edward Griffin
June 6, 201214 yr "The right to bear arms was included in the Bill of Rights, not to deter crime, but to deter oppressive government. n 99% of gun owners would say they have the guns to deter crime, right?
June 6, 201214 yr 99% of gun owners would say they have the guns to deter crime, right? I don't know if I'd agree with that statement. I say that the shotgun I keep in my closet is for "defence"...not deterrence. There are "home defense" models of guns. I think more of the gun owners who buy guns for the sake of fighting crime are buying them to defend against a crime, not to "prevent it".
June 6, 201214 yr Author 99% of gun owners would say they have the guns to deter crime, right? I own two bolt-action rifles for recreational purposes (hunting & firing range). I just turned 21 years old recently, so I plan on getting my concealed soon. But crime is not my incentive, nor is it my relatives' incentive. So, my answer to you, from a personal standpoint, no.

They're not defending themselves against the police and govt.

June 6, 201214 yr Author Did you buy it to protect yourself against the government? Nope. But just in case..Governments, from a historical standpoint, have never been trustworthy.
June 6, 201214 yr Nope. . No one does which is why I thought that part of the quote was not applicable to today. I do not own a gun but am cool with gun ownership.

Agreed, I'm not hanging up old targets or pictures of all my guns out side of my house to make a criminal think twice about breaking into my home. I have my guns inside readily available so that they'll regret breaking in to my home if they choose to.
June 6, 201214 yr Author No one does which is why I thought that part of the quote was not applicable to today. I do not own a gun but am cool with gun ownership. Are you saying government oppression, is not, or, could not, be applicable today?
June 6, 201214 yr Are you saying government oppression, is not, or, could not, be applicable today? I am saying that people are not buying guns saying " I need to make sure I protect myself against the government."
June 6, 201214 yr Author I am saying that people are not buying guns saying " I need to make sure I protect myself against the government." Okay? Lol. Good point, Clyde?
June 6, 201214 yr Okay? Lol. Good point, Clyde? I'm not sure where LOL comes in. And since you're asking, yes, it was a good point.
June 6, 201214 yr I am saying that people are not buying guns saying " I need to make sure I protect myself against the government." Maybe not the majority, but for sure a portion of the population who have bought guns have done so in part for that purpose. There are a lot of anti-government types out there.
