Falling oil, gas prices are silver lining as economy weakens

Featured Replies

Gas went from 3.29 this morning to 3.65 this evening.

I just don't understand.

We will never understand. It will take 2 months to go down .36 but a day to go up that much.

Central Kentucky dealer seemed to jump on the (small) increase in oil prices. The priced jumped in Jessamine yesterday or early today.

Oil went above $85!!

Of course 6 months ago oil was above $100 a barrel and prices were around $3,39. At $85 it should be below $3.00 based on history.

There is very noticeable disconnect in the drop in oil prices and lack of drop in local gas prices.

Mr. Conway should have look maybe at local manipulation...

Just got back from Gatlinburg where prices were $3.15 along the entire strip of a major tourist city. The rest of Tennessee was the same, half of KY below Lexington was in the low 3.30's. Back in NKY/Cincy I am paying $3.79. Gotta love it. Unfortunately where there is money there is greed.

Of course, it has nothing to do with greed but just good old supply and demand!

Funny I saw two Shell stations owned by and operated by Road Ranger on Route 18 yesterday. They are about 1 mile apart! One is on the north side of 18 and the other is on the south side of the hwy. The one closest to Florence was 3.59 the one just down Route 18 farther from Florence was 3.79.

Just think if the station was another 1 mile down the road, the cost of gas there might have been 3.89 :idunno:

I don't think the arbitrarily inflated prices are congruent with affluency.

Here in my neck of Pike County, gas has been in the $3.70 - $3.80 range for a while. In Pikeville I paid $3.28 about a week ago, but that was at Food City where customers get a 15 cents per gallon discount. Their regular price was $3.43 and when I got home (25 miles away) our price was still $3.77.

Frustrating.

Gas in Mississippi was anywhere from $2.81 (yes $2.81 and they had a too die for pulled pork sandwich too at the Hog Heaven Shell station In Laurel, Miss) to $3.09 at Shell stations for Regular. The most we paid for gas at a Shell Station in our 1,400 trip from Keesler AFB back to NKy was $3.16 in Nashville at Shell. BTW back in NKY it was #3.59.

That's good to hear. Heading to Gulf Shores and New Orleans next week. I can have an extra drink or two with the gas money I save!!

Gas is $2.89 in Middlesboro

$3.09 in Lexington

$3.29 in Cynthiana

$3.46 in Falmouth

And there is a place in Covington still selling it for $4.03....

Don't expect Kentucky gas prices to be among the lowest nationwide even if they continue to fall. The increase in the gas tax goes into effect in July.

Was 3.15 a few weeks ago in Knoxville, I imagine cheaper now. Gotta love the gouging up in NKY/Cincy.

MS and other southern states benefit from two things: lower taxes on gas and proximity to the refineries.

SC's avg gas price just dropped below $3.00 for the first time in almost two years.

2.96-2.99 in Knoxville today.

3.04-3.12 in Danville.

2.98 in Williamsburg.
