June 2, 201214 yr There's some good news behind the discouraging headlines on the economy: Gas is getting cheaper. It's dropped to $2.99 in some areas of South Carolina and could soon fall below $3 in a handful of Southern states. To read the rest of the story....Falling oil, gas prices are silver lining as economy weakens
June 2, 201214 yr Author So if the cost of gas is falling so low, why are the gas stations in and around NKy all still anywhere from $3.79 to $3.64 a gallon. Florence prices Crescent Springs Covington It's not like I am going to get an explanation from anyone with any true knowledge but honestly I would like to know why we are paying so much! It seem it's like the cost of airlines tickets at CVG that is it's because they can!
June 2, 201214 yr IMO gas prices go down in election years because oil companies do not want Gas Prices to bepart of the political debate. They know if there isn't a big focus during the election, there won't be a big push on them afterwards by the politicians.
June 2, 201214 yr Is this the good old 'election year gas price drop'? Nope. All driven by the slow economy ie lack of demand.
June 2, 201214 yr Nope. All driven by the slow economy ie lack of demand. Even the Saudis are admitting that production is outpacing demand. Anyone know how long any correction in that would take to hit the markets? Say if some members of OPEC were to scale back exports in an effort to drive the price of barrels back up? How long would it be before that price hike hit the pumps? Almost instantly?
June 2, 201214 yr Author Nope. All driven by the slow economy ie lack of demand. So the demand is falling but the price, at least in NKy isn't? Clyde when I visited the Mississippi Gulf Coast area in April, the gas prices were around 3.51 to 3.59 so how come when I got back to good old NKy later that week, the prices were 3.79? Sure they dropped to 3.69 then jumped to back to $3.79 where they stand now. But it still makes me wonder why we are paying so much? Kentucky isn't a state with a huge gas tax and even with the special gas we in NKy have the price is still far more than other places in the Commonwealth and in a lot of places in the USA! High and lows of gas in Kentucky.... So tell me again, why are we in NKy are paying almost .50 per gallon more?

What your local guy charges is a combo of that as well as the market. This will help: Why gas prices vary from station to station in suburbs - DailyHerald.com
June 2, 201214 yr ^ - look at this chart. http://www.GasBuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx?city1=USA Average&city2=Lexington&city3=Cincy&crude=y&tme=3&units=us I would love for someone to explain the saw-tooth curve that most of Kentucky sees.
June 2, 201214 yr Oil has absolutely tanked just 3-4 years ago it's below 3 per gallon right now almost nationwide. Now the bs politics/big companies are saying the price of gas is "sticky'' meaning not affected by the market curves. And they are going to measure things of the brent price per barrel. It's complete garbage and gouging at it's best. Price differential in the south is income driven. The southern states tradionally are lower income and have lower gas prices. Countless times I have left OH to go to the south for vacation and seen gas prices drop 50-60 cents by the time we reach our destination.
June 2, 201214 yr Someone answer this, every time there is a Pres. Election gas prices go down, why is that and it isn't a coincidence. The President has more control of that stuff than people think he does. Funny how all of a sudden it starts dropping and it isn't just all of a sudden because the economy is bad, it's been bad and gas has been high.

June 3, 201214 yr The President has more control of that stuff than people think he does. In what way?
June 3, 201214 yr Believing that the President can control gas prices tells me that you do not fully understand how the oil market works.
June 3, 201214 yr The President has more power than some think, he can do things with oil companies and producers we may or will never hear of. What would keep the President from telling say, Saudia Arabia or BP that if re-elected he will give some type of secret benefit to them, but first he needs gas to go down to help fool people into thinking he is doing a great job and after he wins, raise them up again.
