June 3, 201214 yr Believing that the President can control gas prices tells me that you do not fully understand how the oil market works. Oh I understand how it works. There are the same number of people driving now as there was 3 months ago and the economy was in the same shape. Demand for gas is still the same if nt more. People haven't quit driving, if anything, more people are driving. Remember a few months ago about our vacation discussions and how everyone will travel regardless of price of gas, well why is gas going down, demand is still there. I think you don't want to admit the President can actually have something to do with it.
June 3, 201214 yr The President has more power than some think, he can do things with oil companies and producers we may or will never hear of. What would keep the President from telling say, Saudia Arabia or BP that if re-elected he will give some type of secret benefit to them, but first he needs gas to go down to help fool people into thinking he is doing a great job and after he wins, raise them up again. 100% lunacy.

June 3, 201214 yr Care to explain the numbers I presented or do you wosh go stay in black helicopter mode? I would have to really look at the numbers more closely and get more info from other sources first, I need a second opinion.
June 3, 201214 yr How come nobody is talking about how prices should be falling drastically since oil has tanked? If oil goes up a few dollars, we see a .10-.20 cent hike, yet it goes down 15 plus dollars and drops .10 cents. True greed and gouging.
June 5, 201214 yr I'm not saying if the info is correct or not, but if I don't trust the president, I am not inclined to trust "The Oil Drum" either.

If oil goes up a few dollars, we see a .10-.20 cent hike, yet it goes down 15 plus dollars and drops .10 cents. True greed and gouging. This. Always takes 1-2 days to jump up in price. Then it take 3 months to fall.
June 5, 201214 yr Did you read the comments on the article you posted referring to a book about Bush's reelection and the Saudis adding to the supply so prices would go down in an effort to influence the election? Who knows the truth? None of us commoners....
June 5, 201214 yr Sidenote: A Yale economist went back to 1948 and found that there is very little correlation between gas prices and the election. It's not a big factor. Risks to Obama in Oil Price Instability - NYTimes.com
