We're 1/4 of the way through the season and the $25M man is hitting a robust .211 with 3 HR and 18 RBI. His OBP is a paltry .256 and his OPS is a low .569.

 

Is it officially time for Angel fans to start being seriously concerned that he is on the downside of his career?

No not yet, but If I were Albert I would take different routes to the bank each day. In case any Angel fans go Dodger crazy.

Hard to believe this huge dropoff for him. Wonder what the reason might be. Also hard to believe the season is already a quarter of the way through.

If his average stays below .299 it will be the 5th year in a row we have seen a decline in his BA. 5th year in a row OBP has declined as well.

I wouldn't be worried yet, but it's right around the corner.

 

On a personal level, I'd give him until shortly after the All Star Break to turn things around. Unfortunately, the Angels don't have that type of time available. They're 6 games under .500 and 8 games behind Texas, arguably the best team in the league.

When they released his contract info after he signed with the Angels I said they should have been worried then. I didn't and still don't think that any player is worth that much money especially a guy his age(or atleast the age he claims to be). Even if he has a huge come back this season or next year I just don't think it's gong to last half as long as his contract will.

Pujols was already in decline when he signed with the Angels, who handed out what may end up being the worst contract of all time. Pujols will have some decent years in Anaheim, but he'll never come close to returning value on that deal.

I think it is obvious even when he signed the deal that on strictly production alone he would not be worth the money. However, how do you determine if it was a good investment? If the Angels over the next 6-7 years are able to win a few pennants and capture a WS title while selling out more and catapulting their brand because of Puljos, was it worth it? Probably not but I just find it interesting in trying to justify contract legitimacy.

Whoever was involved in the decision not to schedule Oakland for every other game this season should be fired....

If he keeps struggling, they won't be selling out any games because of him; rather, it'll be in spite of him.

I don't see it happening either, I do think he will get better but it won't be good numbers. I think next year he will be back to normal though.

The length of the contract alone leads me to say yes. Not for this season, but clearly for down the road.
