I didn't really have enough facts to state it but I felt like it was a three horse race between Webb-Edgington, Moore, and Massie. After reading BF's post, I feel even more that way.

I really like Thomas Massie. He graduated from MIT and has been endorsed by both Rand and Ron Paul. I'm from this district and I expect him to win.

 

Are you concerned that Massie's views, while popular with those fed up with big Govt (including me), aren't real practical given the situation in Congress? Do you really think that, if elected, any of Massie's ideas will find enough support in Congress to become law? Will sending another Tea Party type to Congress help the next President (be that President Obama or Romney) find enough Congressmen and Congresswomen to break the trench warfare mentality currently in Congress?

 

Interested in your thoughts on those questions.

I'm leaning toward Webb-Edgington right now. It has to be either her or Gary Moore. I started out being a supporter of Gary Moore, but he has gone so overboard to get my vote that it has really turned me off. His people call here constantly and we get a couple of pieces of mail from him just about every day. Also, much of his campaign literature is mean-spirited and blatantly loose with the facts in regard to his opponents.

 

I like the fact that Webb-Edgington was a state trooper and that she is from the 3-county area. She's been endorsed by Geoff Davis and Sen. Bunning. She actually stopped by our house a couple of months ago. A car pulled up...a mysterious woman came to our door. She introduced herself and talked briefly; then she got back into the car and they drove off. I thought that was pretty cool -- but that's not why I'm supporting her.

 

As for Massie, the article in the Enquirer confirmed my fears about him. The Tea Party has brought in an army of activists from all over the country to set up a headquarters in Bellevue. From there, they will create the illusion of local grassrooot support, and use that mask to garner support from unsuspecting voters. We've already received some of their mailings. You have to look very closely at the fine print to see who is really behind it. So, between those tactics, and the fact that he isn't local, I'm not supporting Massie at all.

 

The other candidates probably don't have any chance, so I really don't have an opinion on them.

 

 

While I intend to vote for Moore, I'm fine with either W-E or Moore winning.

 

I know that W-E has trumpeted her long experience as a law enforcement officer, but to be frank, such doesn't mean much to me as it really provides no indication of whether she would be a good Congresswoman or not. Hell, the Ru was a law enforcement officer for a long time and I sure wouldn't vote for him to become a Congressman. What is more appealing to me about W-E is the reports I've received about her short time in the State legislature. She's reportedly done a great job. She's also played up her appointment as the Director of the Kentucky Homeland Security office. She was appointed by Fletcher. While Ernie has been down to my farm a couple of times and I generally like him, his track record as the Governor somewhat undermines the fact that W-E was appointed (at least in my mind) to be the Director of Ky Homeland Security by him.

 

I know Moore has done a very good job as the J/E in Boone County. Some of the Tea Partiers in Boone County are upset with him but I tend to discount the Tea Partiers complaints and endorsements. I've worked a lot with Moore and Boone County over the years, and have always come away extremely impressed. Don't forget our very own Jeff Earlywine serves as the Boone County Administrator and left the Ft. Thomas City Administrator position to go to work for Gary. The fact that he left a great job to go to work for Gary and has remained working for Gary for quite a while is a pretty strong, unofficial endorsement in my mind (Jeff's ethics as a govt administrator do not permit him to endorse any person running for office). Pendery is also supporting Moore. To the extent Campbell County needs to have it's voice heard in the 4th District's office, given the long relationship between Moore and Pendery, I think it's only logical that Moore would give Pendery the strongest ear.

 

I'm surprised by your assessment of Moore's campaign. Not saying it's wrong at all, but I expect the frequent phone calls and numerous mailings. He has come on pretty strong at times in his mailings; I agree with you on that point most definitely.

 

As for Massie, well, Lloyd Rogers, a wacko Tea Partier, is supporting Massie. Even if I didn't already have my concerns (which seem to mirror your's) about Massie, Roger's endorsement would be enough to make sure I didn't vote for Massie. If Rogers likes the guy, I can be pretty confident I don't. The Worthington/Stine Doctrine is at play here. Years ago when the boys were very young, Henry and I took them to Frankfort when the GA was in session. Stine was in the House at the time. So was Pete Worthington. Stine was talking to the four of us in the hallway, showing the kids around a bit. Worthington, the father of a good friend at the time, saw me and came up to chat. Stine had to leave the group to attend to business. After she left, Worthington pulled me aside and asked me if I knew how Stine was going to vote on an bill. I told him that Katie said she was going to vote in favor of it. He said that he had not studied the bill at all, but that if Katie was in favor of it, he would surely be opposed to it.

 

Again I'm fine with either W-E or Moore winning. I think W-E would do a good job from what I know of her. I'm sure that Moore would do a good job however. Having known him and worked with him for approx the last 15 years, I'm quite confident of it. Besides, W-E's husband is a CovCath coach. How can anyone expect me to vote for the spouse of a CovCath coach?

My concern is with the current status quo in Congress. Republicans and Democrats both. I'm not a huge fan of the tea party, but Massie holds Libertarian beliefs (and was endorsed by Ron Paul) so I am all for putting more guys like him in Congress. But he won't pass many laws until we get some of these guys out of Congress and neither will any other type of beneficial legislature pass. Nothing is currently practical in Congress, it's time to make some changes.

 

I don't think the tea party is the answer. But I think a guy like Massie is a great addition and he may not help break the trench warefare mentality but I'm willing to risk a true Libertarian instead of the same R's and D's who are rolling around in the mess.

I really don't care about their education, past political experience or for the most part who is backing them. I'll just go with my gut instinct on who might do the bext job, that does leave out almost any who are from the Tea Party or who is endorsed by them.

This thread is a good picture of why Massie might win. Moore and Webb-Edgington are going to split the N. Ky. vote and that could allow Massie to win. I know the district is a N. Ky. district, but how much? If N. Ky. voters are less than 2/3rds of the voters, Moore and Webb-Edgington are in trouble. My vote is for Moore.

^ Not sure of the year, but the last stat on this was about 64% urban, not sure if they consider southern Boone, Kenton and Campbell in with the northern part. I'm thinking Moore and W.E. would get Grant and other counties south of the northern three counties.
