^ Thanks for RTing that. Great story. I was just coming here to post it.

I'm in San Diego right now and everyone is shocked. It doesn't seem like anyone saw this coming.

I wouldn't figure so unless there is proof positive that Seau suffered from CTE and that there were no previously undisclosed financial/drug/family issues.

I saw yesterday his home was valued about one third of what it was in 05. I feel pretty safe assuming he will have some brain issues. I am in no way saying he did steroids, but I've been looking at some stuff today saying steroids plus many head collisions could have brutally bad results for psychology of ex players.

Ironic with a username like that.

But it is only 66 here today.

• In 1998, LB Doug Miller was struck by lightning while camping in Colorado. CPR was being performed on Miller when he was struck again by a second bolt

I think it was definitely his time...

No denying that.

I wonder what % of suicides don't leave notes...

The friend I mentioned in my previous post didn't. She just hung herself apparently and the police found her a day later when she didn't show up for work. I'm guessing that someone that doesn't leave a note is probably doing in on more of an impulse, but I dunno that's just speculation. To be honest I've been asking myself that same question for almost a week now. Just a sad event.

The suicide has been confirmed by the ME.

SF41, I don't think anyone can understand the depths of despair that some can drown in before they get to that point. Often people are able to hide it because many of us don't recognize the signs. I have watched lived ones struggle my whole life with this....my mother, my brother a cousin and my daughter. Only because I have been there did I notice what was happening. Thank God they were all convinced to get help. But to many struggle and no one notices. It's not the fault if anyone though. MANY truly in the grip of such despair don't talk about it. Others try, but find no one believes them, driving them further into their despair. Don't beat yourself up. I know it's unfathomable. But, maybe her soul is at peace now.

Another great question I hadn't thought of.

I think the game will drastically change and this will be the driving force. It was going to change dramatically eventually anyway. This will speed that process though IMO.

Same here, and I broke down one night and told my mom what scared me the most is she reminded me so much of my sister. Fortunately my sister has my nephew now and I know she would never hurt him, but it's still scary when that thought goes through your mind. Honestly I was just really disgusted and ticked off the first few days and now all I can think about in both instances is the families, just seems so selfish to put them through that, and maybe my thought process in selfish for thinking like that. I guess it's like they say "you never know until you walk a mile in their shoes".

What will be really interesting is to see how the UFC evolves over the next 40-50 years. The sport is growing rapidly and has just as severe if not more severe effects on the participants brain. We've already heard of a few guys in MMA having domestic problems and run ins with the law.
