In baseball this is the first one I've heard of. But that doesn't explain why it's arrogant. It's not like he was saying he was good enough, scouts were telling him he was good enough.

He felt he had a chance, took it and as it turns out he was right. I just can't for the life of me understand how that makes him arrogant. I'm talking about this alone. In mainstream American sports not many and thought of as taboo. Though a lot of that is regulated by the professional leagues. In other countries and less mainstream sports it is very prevalent.

As for greatest prospect of all time, no one will ever know. However, you're talking about a handful of people that could've EVER been selected #1 overall as a 17 year old. Pretty sure that puts him in the conversation.

 

As for his arrogance. He is, and he can be. If he doesn't produce he'll earn the criticism. And if you don't think 99% of all professional athletes aren't arrogant you aren't paying attention.
