I don't see why you should wish to see him "fail" though. Maybe he could use a solid knock to his ego, but I don't know why I should want him to "fail". Mickey Mantle played his first game as a widely touted 19 year old...and then he drank his way into death-by-liver-failure by age 63. I'm not sure what his ego was like, but still, he apparently didn't deal well with his good fortune. I surely don't feel like I would have rather seen him "fail" though. Would I have rather he didn't live his life out of a bottle? Sure. But fail? No.

 

When I say fail, I don't mean flop out of the league. I mean hit like .250-.260, and basically struggle like every other young guy does when they first start out.

True, not sure what Kobe has to do with any of this. I guess you (LRCW) are going to compare arrogance but this kid hasn't even hit a HR in the MLB yet. Kobe has 5 rings. Not even close to the same thing.

I'd say that's fair. I have a feeling he has been on his best behavior since coming to the Bigs. He knows he had a bad reputation. I'd like to see if he is the same way after a year or 2.

He skipped his final 2 years of high school to become eligible for the MLB draft earlier. He blew a kiss to a pitcher in the minors he hit a HR off of. He annointed himself the "LeBron James of baseball".

Kobe didn't come into the league with those 5 rings, and from what I can remember he was a cocky, young ballplayer. I don't even know if cocky is a good description. I think confident is a better description.

That's fine, but from what you said your forming it on what you've read, and not what you've seen from him. Again, that's fine, and you explained your definition of "failing" a little better. I'm sure if he were a Red, or Red Sox, you would feel different about him. :D
